“Our second home”

Hotel Beatus

5 of 5 stars
Bristol England
Jan 13, 2008

My wife and myself stayed at the hotel for a long time in 2007 due to work commitments and the staff and owners became like family. The chef (Sebastien) forced me to put on weight with the quality of the food he cooked, and the bar staff forced me to get a little merry with the drink they served. If you need any information about tank battles, Philippe is your man. The rooms are tastefully decorated and the quiet gardens are a pleasure to have a drink in. It is not far from the A26 and Cambrai is within walking distance. A decent size comercial centre is just up the road with a large supermarket and petrol station. All the reception staff speak English and will help you with your French. I suggest that through the peak periods, you try to book ahead as the hotel is normally fully booked. They will do their best to get you another hotel locally, but in my opinion, this is the best one around as there is a fair bit of parking available on site.

I have just returned from a 2 night stay at the Hotel Beatus - I have nothing but praise for this lovely hotel and it's attentive staff. The room and the food in the restaurant were both of a high standard. Special thanks to Philippe the hotel owner for his knowledge and assistance regarding my grandfather and the Battle of Cambrai.

“pleasant find”

Hotel Beatus

We had a bit of a shock when approaching the hotel, as it is literally just off a main road in a built up area out of the centre of Cambrai, and we were (from the photographs) expecting it to be in a rural location. That said, it was tucked away, just behind the main road, and looked pretty and more secluded than first impressions of its location suggested.
The staff on reception were welcoming and extemely helpful.
The room(s) we stayed in were basic but roomy, comfortable and very clean. We had 2 rooms for a family of 4 which was cheaper than the 1 family room.
Breakfast was ample with a choice of cereals, cold meats and cheese, fruit, bread, croissants and eggs etc.
The hotel restaurant was closed, so we asked the receptionist to recommend one - she booked us a table at l'escargot in town. It was a busy popular eating place and the food was good, I guess it was one of the better restaurants in Cambrai, but it is the only one we ate at. We had a good rapport with the owner, but when we received the bill, we were overcharged by 20€!
The town looked interesting but we didn't explore it fully as this was just a 1 night stop off en route to Reims.

“fantastic hotel”

Booked this hotel on the basis of the other reviews. It is a wonderful place with excellent staff and a good restaurant. The owner/manager suggested local places to visit including a lace museum (much more interesting than it sounds), a Matisse museum and the grave of Wilfred Owen (you would never know it was there). Highly recommended.
