“Never again!”

Le Relais du Roy

1 of 5 stars
Maisons-Alfort, France

One night to forget in room 3 (above the kitchen). Inevitably very noisy until the last restaurant client had gone and the staff had cleaned the place up, but ... no quiet night afterwards as the night watchman ensured we got very little sleep by putting all the empty bottles in a container andmoving around tables and chairs around 3 a.m. Reception far from being sympathetic when I complained the next morning ...
One good point: the restaurant - good food, good service.

“Okay, but some problems”

Le Relais du Roy

We stayd in a twin room with river view and shower. The window was small. The view was not impressive. Beds were comfortable. Drain emptied slowly in the shower. One of the receptionists was friendly to French guests, but impolite to Asians.

“Mt-St-Michel hotel Relais du Roy”

Le Relais du Roy

May 26, 2008

This is a good hotel, very close to the Couesnon river represented in the famous Bayeux Tapissery and just at the beginning of the causeway (around 1 mile) to the Abbey, i.e. a walkable, and recommended, distance. Pity that the surroundings (parking, supermarket, new buildings) are not really appealing. The hotel is mainly a new building making odd the absence of lifts which can be annoying for rooms located at the third floor. The restaurant and breakfast are good and some rooms has the view on the Abbey. The reception personnel is friendly and helpful.

    • Liked — the view on the Abbey

“No need to stay inside the Mont when you can stay here”

Le Relais du Roy

Apr 10, 2008

There may be a certain romance about staying in a hotel located within the Mont but you'll be missing out on this little gem if you do so. And there's the added advantage of looking back at the Mont in the evening at a distance as you're walking back to the hotel, something you wouldn't do if you were staying in it.

You will find the Relais quite easily as it is the second last building on the right before you get into the causeway leading to the hotel. As others have said, it will only take you another 2 minutes to drive from the hotel to the Mont's public carpark. There is parking space in front of the hotel if you are driving there albeit limited. Also the hotel does not have a lift so you might want to leave the heavy stuff in the car if you're heading to the top floor. Staff were reasonably friendly but certainly not memorable.

We had the triple room and it was very spacious. The bedding was luxurious and on par with some of the 5 star hotels we have stayed in. The bathroom and toilet were in separate areas. The bathroom was the main letdown - as you can see from the photo, the bath lacks a screen so unless you take a bath or run the shower on a drip, the bathroom floor will invariably get soaked. The bath plug lever system was broken so taking baths were out of the question. So wet flooring it was. A note of caution - the bath is narrower than most and also extremely slippery. A mat is not provided and my daughter slipped in it. Thankfully she tends to bounce at her age but I can imagine that it will be quite a hazard for the elderly. This hotel would have got 5 stars if not for this.

Breakfast is held in the restaurant which in a large and tastefully decorated hall. It costs 9.50euros and offers a good continental selection. Considering that fruit juices costs upwards of 3 euros per glass in most restaurants in the Mont, this is fairly good value.

Overall a very positive experience.

“Good location”

Very clean room, crisp quilt cover and pillow cases. Walking distance from the Mont. Although only built in the 1950s the downstairs has a medieval feel with huge open fireplaces. The only downside was the noise from banging doors in the night due to a coach party of tourists taking most of the rooms. Could be easily fixed by improving door closers. Would use the hotel again.
