This is a very basic hotel. Just two floors with 2 to 4 bed rooms. No lounge, tv room, etc. There is a restaurant next door that serves basic dinners and breakfast (7 euros, just continental).

The rooms have some tired beds. Bathroom has a bathtub, no real shower (not even a hook for the 'telephone style' shower.

No elevator if you need to haul luggage to the second floor.

Beware of the website, it shows a pretty tower, but that's not the actual hotel.

“Barely OK”

We didn't expect much from this hotel, given the pictures and the other reviews, so we weren't disappointed. We chose it for the price range and for its proximity to Mont Saint-Michel. Service was minimal and the rooms were not exactly spotless. It was ok for 1 night stay.
If you go to the Mont during non-peak months (we went in mid-June and the place wasn't crowded at all) it might be best if you don't make reservations, as there are lots of hotels with vacancies and then you can choose on the spot (after visiting the hotels) where you want to stay. That way you can pick the best hotel for the price you want.

“42 nights on the road and this was the worst”

Hotel Restaurant Le Saint Aubert

The okay: Good location if you don't want to be on the rock. Clean. Perhaps relatively cheap. Didn't check the (many) nearby chambres d'hote. They would probably be more reasonable and include breakfast.

The bad: Tired, dated, extremely basic property with stains on walls and fixtures and back-aching mattresses. Front desk closes at something like 7 a.m. and doesn't re-open until 10 the next morning so forget any staff support between those hours. No amenities. No breakfast included.

The ugly: At check-in, we were required to write down our credit card information on a form rather than having them run the card. Within 24 hours, fraudulent charges began being made on our credit card that eventually totalled $1,000. Coincidence or someone sleazy on the hotel staff ripping off credit card numbers? You choose. We traveled 6 weeks in four countries including three third-world countries and never had a problem until hours after we stayed in this hotel. It was the worst choice of our long trip.

The bottom line: If price is your only consideration and you don't have the time or flexibility to check out the nearby chambres d'hote (B&Bs), this would do for a night, but don't expect even Motel 6 and, whatever you do, do not agree to write down your credit card information.

  • This TripAdvisor Member:
    • Liked — It cost 50 EU, which was less than the surrounding hotels.
    • Disliked — The room, the mattress, the service, and the possibility of credit card theft.

“Mont St. Michel priceless, St. Aubert adequate”

Hotel Restaurant Le Saint Aubert

The hotel was adequate for our needs. We were only staying one night and planned to be out of our room sight-seeing or trying out the local cuisine. I would have been very dissapointed if we wanted more. The front desk was not occupied most of the time, making it difficult to get any information or get a hairdryer (we finally did). The price tho, was very reasonable and it included breakfast next door to the hotel.
We wanted to be close, but not on the Mont which we were, and our room, although "tired" was clean.
That being said, Mont Saint Michel is a sight everyone should see, it is mystical, magical...appearing out of nowhere, visible for miles before you arrive. The trek up to the Abbey is worth the effort...if you are approaching your Sr. years...take your time, rest on the way...and soak in the views as you climb. I found Rick Steve's book gave a great step by step self tour. The 8 Euro price of a ticket to the Abbey is well spent.
We ventured out to the causeway area around 9:45 pm to see the Mont lit up and to hopefully see some of the tide come in around 10pm. We were awestruck watching it light up in stages from the bottom to the top where the golden St. Michel strikes his pose toward the sky. We were actually able to see the tide "galloping" in ,even in the dark...and it is a memory I will hold
as a "life moment" ....We got this awsome photo...reflection was from the top of our car.

“The worst and overpriced”

Hotel Restaurant Le Saint Aubert

We booked our hotel thru planigo.com. We originally wanted Hotel de la digue which we found on Rick Steve's France 2007. The planigo told us that the Hotel de la digue was sold out and we can have a room at the Hotel St. Aubert instead. When I checked Tripadvisor, there were 1 positive reivew so we decided to give the hotel a try since we were going to be in Normandy area for the anniversary of D day (June 6) and a lot of hotels were sold out for the day. When we arrived at the hotel, the rooms ( we had 2 rooms) were located at the ground floor, smelly and damp. They were small which is not unusual for French hotel room. But the bathroom was reeking smell, dirty and looked like they haven't been painted for long time. We requested to change the room but were flatly refused. The front desk person told us that the rooms were all booked and weren't any rooms available for us even though the parking lot was empty but for 2 or 3 cars. In the morning the breakfast was very forgettable. The restaurant was dirty and flies were everywhere. We only saw 10 people in total at the breakfast so we were wondering where all the hotel customers were. We saw other hotels next to Hotel St aubert, Hotel Vert looked very clean and nice and the room price (they posted outside) was half of what we paid. Matter of fact all other hotels in the causeway looked better than this one. I will never patronize neither Planigo.com nor this hotel in the future.
