“Disappointed by St.Nepomuk”

Hotel-Restaurant St. Nepomuk

My husband and I have just returned from a 2 night stay at the hotel, following TripAdvisor glowing reviews. We were very disappointed. The"luxury "room in the guesthouse bore no resemblance to any of those featured on the hotel's website. It was very dark and shabby, with virtually no furniture,a hard thin carpet, and thoroughly depressing. The common parts of the guesthouse were the same, and in desperate need of refurbishment. We were shown 4 other rooms, both in the main hotel (these were very small)and the guesthouse until we finally got one that was pleasant with characterful furnishings, and even a small patio garden.Even so,it was still not luxury standard. The towels were few, hard and extremely small. The extractor fan in the bathroom was broken, and so loud that you could not switch the bathroom lights on without causing disturbance. The location could be lovely but the building works referred to in previous reviews are still going on: the guesthouse immediately adjacent to the hotel is covered in scaffolding and there is dirt and dust right by the patio of the hotel,so the picturesque scene is ruined and you would not want to sit outside.I was assured when I booked that the building work had finished. In fact what the hotel meant was there is no actual construction work at the weekend.Nevertheless the ugly building site is still there, and during the week the noise and dust must be horrible.Such is the extent of the work that I cannot imagine the building being complete before 2008.
The staff were efficient but not at all apologetic about the rooms, their variance from what they feature on their website, and the state of the building.I was told that the room we finally got was a big upgrade. In fact I was paying E115 for a room with a E120 list price.Hardly a huge discount .There was a meanness about everything, from charging E2.5 for a tiny 1/4l bottle of water in the room,to adding 90 cents to an E390 bill for a postage stamp. Basically this is not a luxury hotel and is not worth E115 a night.
The food was fine,we ate the full evening dinner but very expensive compared to other meals we had in Bamberg, and again the restaurant decor is dated. The bar is a small area by reception,so not really somewhere you want to linger.
We visited a friend staying at the 4 star Welcome Hotel Residenzschloss, who for E90 had ,in the old part of the hotel,a lovely large light airy room and bathroom, towels and fluffy bathrobe, free daily fresh fruit platter, a champagne buffet breakfast and a free health spa treatment. If we had stayed any longer we would have switched hotels just to be in a more light pleasant and luxurious environment.
Finally,I should add Bamberg is well worth a visit, perfect for a long weekend so do go .

“Romantic and charming”

While this hotel can be challenging to find, as mentioned in other reviews, it more than makes up for it once you arrive. We stayed there on our honeymoon and had a lovely room overlooking the dam. The room was tastefully decorated and spotless. The only complaint would be the service at the restaurant as it was inattentive and somewhat snobbish. However, the outstanding food and ambiance made up for it.

“Beautifully situated in a cool town”

First, if you can find this hotel without stopping at least twice to ask for directions, you are a genius. (I am not.) It is worth the effort to find it. The hotel looks old outside, is modern inside & is beautifully situated on its own island. We had a very nice room overlooking the river & the falls. Bamberg is a very cool town & this hotel is well situated to walk through the most interesting areas & to unique restaurants. It is a 20 – 25 minute walk to the train station & not recommended with luggage. The restaurant was pricey but the food was outstanding.
During our visit, we encountered a severe noise problem as a result of some major construction next to the hotel between 8:00am & 5:00pm – even the hotel staff was frustrated with the noise & dust from the construction. The parking in their garage can be challenging unless you really enjoy manoeuvring your car in very tight conditions.
I would recommend the hotel but before staying there again, I would make sure the construction next door has been completed.

“wonderful location”

When I got to the hotel I couldn't believe the location. My room was in the building above the restaurant in the middle of the river. I looked out my window and felt like I was in a different time period. It was amazing I just couldn't get over the view. I absolutely loved it. I arrived there around ten a.m. and went up to my room. I expected it to be more old fashioned like the photos from the website but it was more modern but that was okay since the view was fantastic. I walked around the town of Bamberg and enjoyed it very much. I had dinner at the restuarant and everything was great. Then the next morning the breakfast they had was amazing so many choices of breads, cold cuts cheeses, teas, and juice. It was outstanding. I loved my stay here and wished I could of been here longer.

“Hotel Nepomuk”

The Nepomuk occupies the most idyllic setting in Bamberg, an idyllic town. It is in the middle of the river Regnitz (an old mill) on its own island, a few yards from the two Gasthauses where most guests stay. It's perfectly located for walks around this beautiful small Bavarian town. Beside is a highly recommended brewery, the Klosterbrau, with excellent beer and food ; it's 20 steps staggering back to the guesthouse.
We had a wonderful few days in Bamberg - a place that is entirely civilised, at ease with itself and most friendly. Go for a walk near the Dom in the late evening when there's mist and you'll be in the most beautiful film-set. Have a coffee in the Cafe Bassanese beside the absurdly picturesque Rathaus. In the autumn the colour of the trees and leaves everywhere is just lovely.
