“Lovely view shame about the food”

The views from the hotel are magnificient, the bedroom and bathroom was clean with daily maid service. The towels were changed every day and the beds once during the week. Overall the hotel complied to the brochure. However the food was dreadful, inferiour quality produce which was badly cooked. I love Italian food and was very disappointed. Taking into account the price I paid I did not expect gourmet food, just some decently cooked pasta and salad would have done, but some of the meals they served up were inedible. Also the staff were unhelpful and dismissive both in the dining room and on reception. Fortunately we were able to eat out,I felt very sorry for some of the guests with children who had little choice. I wouldn't recommend this hotel to anyone.

“La Limonaia is absolutely fine”

We were somewhat stupid in booking this hotel and only looking at a couple of good reviews. A few days before we went we decided to have a more detailed search and found all these reviews on Tripadvisor. Needless to say, we set off in trepidation of what we would find, bearing in mind all the poor comments interspersed with a few good reviews.

However, there is not much wrong with the hotel for the price you pay. The food is plentiful, there is a wide range of salads, and if you don't like any of the main courses on offer you can make up an excellent salad with some cold meats. Even breakfast was a lot better than some places we have been. Indeed there was a cooked breakfast that was not advertised. It is not gourmet food. However I am reasonably particular about what I eat, and I was quite happy with every meal.

The room was clean, and quite large and had the most spectacular view of the lake and Limone.

It is a lovely walk from the hotel down to the town and beach. Coming back in the late afternoon heat up the hills to the hotel would be difficult for some people but you can always pay one euro for the minibus. We never did.

Would we stay in the hotel again? Yes

just got back from this hotel after one w eek staying there. the views from the rooms are very very good but thats about it. you have to be very fit and mobile to walk up and down the drive daily though once that is done the walk into limone is not too bad but comfortable shoes are the order of the day. we were in the minority as 80% of quests were german speaking and as we all know they do not believe in queing for anything so food times could be interesting. reception staff were as helpful as they could be allowing for the lanquage difficulties. we went with first choice and the rep was only to be found for 20 mins a few days a week so as there were only 8 english people staying we felt abandoned. would not go to this hotel again but plan to go and stay at malcesne a lovely village opposite us on the lake. boat service is brilliant and would not advise anyone to go on any organised trip as is so easy to travel on lake yourself.

“Dont stay here if self catering”

Stayed at this hotel for 2 weeks. Chose it as only place we could find for self catering in Limone. As only 2 of us we paid an additional £380 for under occupancy as it stated it was an apt for 4. It was to celebrate our pearl wedding anniversary. What a disappointment. The room was not cleaned for the 2 weeks. We were informed we had paid for "final cleaning" only. As we paid £1500 s/c for the 2 of us I thought the final cleaning was additional to the intermittant cleaning! We had to buy loo cleaner etc. The so called on site supermarket opened for only an hr in the morning and an hr in the early evening. The stocks were very limited, stale bread rolls and NO fresh fruit or veg. A few tins of ham etc. (we dont eat meat hence often choose s/c in case a problem for dining out) This meant we had to walk 1/2 hr to the town and back to get supplies or fight our way on to the 8 seated courtesy bus. The gradient from the road leading to the hotel was 80 degrees and carrying supplies was a chore. I'm not talking about 3 course meals just basic supplies as we intended to eat out in the evenings and just needed breakfast supplies. The bed was not made or changed all week and when we asked about this as s/c it was up to us to do household chores as well!! I was given an armful of clean towels and sheets at reception and told the maid would be informed to make the bed. No surprise when we got back that evening and had to change the bed ourselves. We had paid extra for a/c and although we knew it only came on at certain times even that failed and we had to go to reception to ask them to turn it on on numerous occasions. The second week at our own expense we stayed for a few nights in a hotel in the town and how refreshing to have the bed made and clean towels and the room smelt clean. We also queried the under occupancy charge as only beds for 3 and 2 cups. I did write to the company on return pointing out that HB people were eating out at night as food awful and following receipt of £100 compensation I wrote another letter and rec'd a furher £80. However, this dosn't give back the 2 weeks celebrating our anniversary. We have travelled for over 30 yrs and when young stayed in some basic places but never had to clean the room ourselves including waste bins and change bed linen and request clean towels. It goes without saying we will never book with the company again.
