Should have checked this website first...

Went to a Flight Centre in Brisbane on m recent trip to Oz and wanted to drive down to Sydney and stay a few days. I wanted something that was reasonable per night as the deluxe Sydney Hotel market can be very expensive.

The travel agents (who were great) took a look at the offerings from there companies list and came up with the Central Private Hotel. From the listing and photos, it sounded fine for the budget.

As you can see from the other reviews here, the place was a disgrace. Those photos must have been taken in the 70's. We booked the (trying not to die of laughter) DELUXE SUITE with the private bathroom and let me tell you... unless you live in a clay hut in a third world country... this place is nothing short of terrible, awful and disgusting.

The beds are disgusting, rotting mattresses laying on top of a rotting boxspring on the floor. I took another sheet off one of the other beds to put double sheets between us. The paint and wallpaper were stained, peeling and in generally horrible condition.

We were instantly depressed when we walked in. There are no chains or any type of real security on the doors either... I wished I had brought my gun.... yes, it was that bad.

We contacted the travel agency right away the next morning and emailed pictures of the place which we'd paid 109 AUD per night for (booked and paid for four nights in advance). The travel agent apologized profusely and found us a REAL HOTEL (The Marquis) for only 20 AUD more per night. WELL WORTH IT considering there is no PARKING for the Central Private HOLE.

And to top it off? The "friendly" manager decided to not refund the second night because it was too late to cancel. 10am. TOO LATE TO CANCEL.

If you are looking to film a scene for the next SAW movie, this is the place for you... but if you are looking to actually enjoy Sydney, stay the heck away from this dump... you'd have better luck with the backpackers down the road.

Totally agree with other comments, the room was disgusting, wallpaper ripped, cups & cutlery dirty, shower a complete joke, stayed for 2 nights, the worst 2 nights I have ever spent in a hotel. When I asked for milk to have with my tea I was told to go and buy some and on leaving he tried to charge me an extra $100, read the other reviews and please stay away!

“Beyond Belief”

This place is beyond belief; it's hard to know where to start in a hotel that looks more like a hostel for the homeless. The place looks like it hasn't been decorated in the 50 years since it opened. My room had yellow dirty paint, the wallpaper was not present on large parts of the wall. The room smelled dank. The window could not be seen out of for dirt. The TV didn't work. There was a kitchen style sink in the room, only one of the taps worked, it gave the room a pleasant bedsit/grotty feel. The carpets were heavily stained. The bed cover had cigarette burns. On inspection, the pillow under the cover was yellow and smelled. There was a dank smell thoughout the place. There were insects - beatles and flys sharing the room with me. The shower head had some sort of vegetation growing out of it. Oh, and the management are aloof and rude - I wouldn't expect them to take any notice of any complaint about the standard of accomodation, since they clearly don't care - are making money, god knows how. Environmental health should close this place down, it is quite simply as others have reviewed before me, a disgrace.

“what a disgrace”

I stayed at the above mentioned 'hotel' along with 3 friends over the new year period and agree with everything already written. This place is an absolute disgrace and I would warn anyone off going there. As already described elsewhere the rooms were in an awful condition, had clearly not been refurbished for a long time, the door appeared to have been tampered with and the safety notice re fires etc was written on the back of the door in marker pen! The 'hotel' appeared to house a mixture of travellers and long term residents. In addition the area surrounding the 'hotel' is fairly unpleasant and a long way from the main areas of interest. We subsequently moved to a 4* centrally located hotel for the same price we were being charged at this establishment. I would feel desperately sorry for anyone who saves up for a trip to Sydney and ends up in this place, we were so deflated upon arrival. For the price charged you can do so much better.

“Worst 'hotel' I have ever set foot in.”

Myself and 3 friends booked two rooms in this "hotel" over new year. When we arrived it didnt look great, and the guy in the office next door that acted as a reception was pretty rude.

Prior to seeing the rooms we were asked by the guy on reception to pay for our 5 nights up front. None of us had much cash so offered our credit cards. He said the card machine was not working and requested we get cash. We agreed and said we would get it after putting our stuff in the rooms. Thankfully we never gave him the money.

After trekking up about 3 flights of stairs past various holes in the walls, dirty carpets and random smells, we got to our rooms on the top floor. My mate opened the door and we walked in to a pretty rancid smell. I also noticed a lot of fruit flies buzzing around the room. The room had a window with bars on it that had been snapped and bent out so that anyone could get in (or maybe they were trying to get out). My two other travelling companions room was worse and did not even have a window.

I read some of the reviews on this site prior to us booking it, and we all pretty much went with the opinion that it could not be as bad as that. Believe me IT IS. Dont go near this hotel, its the worst I have ever been in (note not stayed in, we found another place!). Its not even that cheap compared with what else you can get in Sydney. Dont even consider it!
