“Paradise”

Green Island Resort

Jul 10, 2008

I have been fortunate enough to stay at Green Island Resort several times and think it is "Paradise". Contrary to the review "not as good as i expected" when you are in the Resort area you are away from the 'daytrippers' it feels like you are in your own little world, its so peacfeul, there is a lovely private pool for houseguests and you are surrounded by trees. All daytrippers have gone by 4.30 then the Island is your own. Relaxing in a deckchair on the beach, drinking complimentary champers and watching the sunset is bliss!

Hi all

We went on a four night trip to Green Island Resort in May and all I can say it was wonderful.

We had the best time from the staff , the food, the rooms ,it was all good.

I honestly can rave enough about this place, you know when you see the pictures on the internet and when you get there its nothing like you saw, not this place, the rooms are beautiful.

Forget the reports about the daytrippers, they were good, and by 4pm there gone, didnt bother us at all.

We went snorkling out from the life saving hut, it was great, the further out you went the better it got, nemo the hole bit.

We met a lovley couple from England there, and will stay in touch, and a special thanks to the dive team, that looked after our son during his dive at the outer reef.

We will be back soon, thanks all.

We spent 4 nights on Green Island and had a wonderful time. The ferry from Cairns was great and the hotel staff met us off the boat and instantly made us feel welcome. Each evening after the day visitors have left the island, there is a fish feeding session which is amazing - we saw so many different fish including reef sharks. This is followed by complimentary champagne on the beach to watch the sunset. The island only has one restaurant for evening meals but the menu was varied. There are 2 different night walks to see the wildlife, which included ghost crabs and sea turtles. Our room was very spacious, clean and quiet. There was internet access in a communal space and fresh towels were provided on an evening along with chocolates. Free to island guests were rides on the glass bottom boats and entrance to the underwater observatory. There was lots of quality snorkeling close to the island and a day trip to the outer barrier reef was also worth the extra charge.

“3 nights at Green Island Resort.”

We just spent 3 nights on Green island as part of our 14 night trip to Australia and thought i would leave a short review of the resort.

We arrived on the first big cat transfer of the day from the Cairns terminal which was a very easy process. You check in just like at an airport where your bags are taken from you (and delivered to your room on arrival) you are then given a package which includes your room key a token for your beach towels (which you swap at reception for towels) tickets for the ferry, and a short form to fill in which saves time on arrival at the island. You then asked to put a small blue sticker on you collar which identifies you as a house guest and not a day tripper.

On leaving the ferry at the island we were met on the jetty by a member of staff from reception who identified us by our sticker. She the led us directly to our room (pointing out shops, aminities and sights of interest as we passed.

The room was very nice and well fitted beds were comfy and the bathroom/shower was also a good size.

The island is VERY busy through the day with day trippers. All the shops, food outlets, bar, and the pool area are busy but the beach does not seem that crowded (other than the small area with a life guard where the beach hire stall is). We walked round the island on the beach and it was easy to find total empty areas.

The previous review was left by a member who did not stay on the island and is not exactly correct. The pool in the public area is very busy with day trippers, children and people using scuba gear, but there is a small private pool area inside the hotel which is very private from day trippers, infact when you are in the hotel area you are totally unaware of all the day trippers outside.

Once the last ferry leaves (4.30pm) the island is TOTALLY diffent. It is almost deserted fish feeding is at 5.00pm sharp and is very enjoyable then free champagne is offered and bookings taken for the resaurant for evening meal.

All in all it is a very relaxing place to visit and we enjoyed our stay very much. 3 Nights was enough for us and we did everything we wanted to in this amount of time.

My only complanints are that the resaurant only serves food between 6.30pm and 9.00pm and other than the resaurant (who are happy to seel you drinks as well as food) there is no bar open after the last ferry leaves.

In closing and reply to the previous review i feel sorry for the day trippers who do not get chance to see this amazing island once the last ferry leaves.

Nick.

I have to say straight out that we did not end up staying at the resort. I had wanted to stay for one night for my husbands 40th but at $450 per night we decided to just go as a day tripper.
I expect the actual rooms are lovely inside but from what i saw of the resort i am glad we decided not to waist our money. The rooms looked OK from outsdie but nothing special There is only one small pool that is used by all the day trippers and by diving instructors as well. The snorkling around the island is not very good. Far Far better on the outer reef. There is NO shade provided on the beach at all for day trippers so you sit and fry.
There was a huge boatload of chinese there the day we went .
There is an ugly area they serve the buffet that looks like a big cage with wire surrounding it.. no doubt to keep the birds out. The food was ok but overpriced.
I felt sorry for people who were staying at the resort as there is no choice but to mix with the day trippers or stay in your room.
