Booked in for the "Shouts On Us" package through [--], then found the same package at the same price directly through the Stamford Plaza Hotel website. A very good package, ($50 bar tab, burger & chips in the room, buffet breakfast and the room), but be aware that if you go on a Sunday, Harry's Bar appears to close soon after 10pm.

The room was a one bedroom suite, and we were upgraded to a king-size room. The bed was huge. Very nice suite, a bit old, but still in very good condition. Staff were friendly.

Overall, a good evening away from home.

Nice enough place, but seemed a bit tired. A few issues with the electrics in the room. Internet was $100 dollars on our bill for not allot of usage, and im sure the website said it had wireless... not for us.

Suite was big, clean and everything you would expect if you were paying just a little less.

Food served at all hours was a big plus, quality not bad either, but again for the price i think some other hotels (suites) would beat it.

As far as location goes it a good spot

Booked the Stamford Plaza via Rates to Go. It was a Secret deal. You paid a great inclusive price and got a five star hotel, but you only found out the location once you paid for it.
I was pretty excited as I booked it for our wedding anniversary so it was meant to be a very special occasion.
Reception was disappointing. The staff were disinterested and rushed through check in procedure. The service provided by reception was very ordinary.
The suite was comfortable but not as clean as it should have been. The cleaning trolley was still in the hallway so I am assuming that it had only been recently cleaned. My husband went to make a coffee and the kitchenette had coffee cup stains on the counter. There was also a large dead moth in the right hand corner of the counter.
Upon leaving the reception check out procedure was once again dismal. The disinterested reception staff let this 5 star hotel down badly. On the plus side, doorman and cleaning staff were very friendly and helpful.

The Stamford Plaza is one of my favourite hotels in Melbourne, but it sometimes lets itself down with the poor quality of its staff.
The hotel's facilities are always good, and even the small suites have excellent facilities. The kitchenettes have a refridgerator, hot plates, dishwasher, sink and taps, and a microwave. And there is a kitchen table with four chairs. There is also a small sofa and a lounge chair. Bedrooms are often small, but adequate, with en suite bathroom. The bedroom can be partitioned off from the kitchette/lounge.
The hotel consists of two towers, separated by a public laneway. The reception area is at the base of one tower, and the restaurant/bar are in the other.
Recurring faults at the Stamford Plaza are the crowding in the restaurant for breakfast, especially for guests seeking a table after 9.00am. And the concierge is often not reliable in the retrieval of guests' cars within the promised 30 minutes. On week-ends the lifts are often slow and crowded.
But most common problems are at the reception desk, with queues and unhappy desk staff.
My wife and I last stayed at this hotel on the night of 8 February, in a one bedroon queen suite. It was a generally happy experience, and on check in and check out the reception staff were efficient and polite. Our room service meal was prompt and appetizing. We avoided the breakfast congestion by dining before 9.00am. and our car was on the street outside the entrance without delay.
But I didn't enjoy being hurried out of our room at 11.20am by a phone call from reception when I had already secured approval for a 12 noon checkout. That's what I mean when I refer to indifferent staff.
