Daughter and I enjoyed our stay at the Citigate, so much so that we extended our nights rather then moving as planned to a "better" hotel. Why?
+ The location is excellent, just around the corner from Degraves Lane which is full of great eating places and interesting shops.
+ A two minute walk to trams, not much more to the central shopping area, theatres, Federation Square and over the bridge to Southgate and the Art Gallery. We walked everywhere at night and didn't even think to feel unsafe - lots of people around.
+ Staff were very friendly and helpful.
+ Room and bathroom were modern and clean (although carpet and chairs were showing some marks of use)
+ I booked a city view room which had windows overlooking Flinders Station - we never drew the curtains as we enjoyed the outlook of the station lit at night, and it wasn't really noisy, except on the Saturday night when the singing went on until the early hours directly opposite our room. But that is inner city living, and the songs were a change from the daytime Pilgrim singing!
Other negatives - well to be picky the windows could be cleaner but that would be a never ending job in that location; the cleaner threw out the papers I was saving to read; there isn't a cupboard for clothes - and just six hangers only (on some wall brackets) - OK for the businessman, but tricky for women on a shopping spree. Overall we would definitely stay again.

Booked on wotif and got a good rate, is not in the safest part of Melbourne - being opposite the very skanky Flinders St Station, but it is in a good location to access the rest of Melbourne city. Stayed there on buisness and have to say it is of a very good standard in terms of that type of accomodation. Would recommend it.

stayed there with my husband in january for 3 nights. excellent location, close to all shops and transport. breakfast was fantastic. service was excellent. staff was helpful in giving directions, suggestions on places to dine out, airport transfer, etc. room was clean. you can tell some signs of wear and tear on furniture but i guess it's just part of life! overall atmosphere was pleasant. one downside is that we had a "king" bed which was really two king single beds put together and you could feel the gap in the middle. would definitely return.

It was very conveniently located with supermarkets next door, cafe in the next lane, train station across the road, tram stop diagonally across, walking distance to everything practically.
Staff member who checked us in wasn't very friendly, but after the one particular person, every other staff member were awesome and so helpful.
The room was quite small but sufficient, we were there for outdoor activities, and didn't really stay in that much to really care abt the size of the room. The only thing was they didn't have a wardrobe for clothes, they just had hooks with hangers. It was ok but just a bit weird. The bath room was very simple, new and clean.
Overall I really liked the place, it was good for the price and location. Nothing 5 star or romantic, but it was just what we needed. I wouldn't even bother checking out other places for my next visit, I think this is the most convenient, so will definitely go back there again!!
