“Home Away from Home”

Stonehaven Homestay

We stayed for two nights at Stonehaven with two teenage boys right before Christmas.

John and Paulette are wonderful hosts. We enjoyed homecooked breakfasts with the hosts and the other guests in the sunny and cheerful gazebo overlooking John's beautiful gardens. Wine in the afternoon with John and other guests. Helpful advice on wineries and restaurants. John recommended that we visit a newly opened World War I Aviation Museum in Blenheim that is not yet in the guide books. The museum was fantastic.

But best of all was the feeling that I was staying in a friend's lovely home -- maybe because there is no hired help around and the owners are so cheerful. Don't miss the Rimu woodwork and artwork throughout the home.

I only regret that we didn't enjoy an evening meal with John and Paulette. I would definitely stay at Stonehaven again.

A superb B&B – one of the best I stayed in during my travels through New Zealand. I stayed in February whilst touring the Marlborough wine area. It is perfectly situated in the midst of Marlborough’s finest vineyards. It is an ideal base to tour the various wineries with fantastic views over the surrounding vineyards and the mountains. John and Paulette Hansen were exceptional hosts and as I was travelling on my own, it was lovely to be made to feel so welcome. I cannot recommend it highly enough.

“A MUST for your New Zealand Holiday”

Spending three nights at Stonehaven with John and Paulette was, without question, a highlight of our New Zealand holiday. My husband and I were welcomed into their beautiful home and were treated like family. John and Paulette are two of the nicest and warmest people you could imagine and their home is a welcome respite for the New Zealand traveler.
They haven't missed a single detail in terms of comfort and beauty. The rooms are tastefully decorated and the beds, with their plump and abundant pillows and wonderful matresses, are a haven after a long day's hike on the Queen Charlotte Track. But don't miss out on spending a few hours (or more!) having tea with John and Paulette. In fact, dinner at their home is a MUST! Paulette is an amazing chef and makes it look simple to prepare a gourmet meal while chatting with her guests. John's advice on just about everything from wine to checking the weather maps is invaluable. Based on his keen knowledge of reading weather maps we were able to find a span of time to hike the QC track in gorgeous weather. He knows the area well and both John and Paulette gave us great advice on things to do and see during our stay and on our drive to Christchurch.
I would suggest spending no less than 2 nights at Stonehaven if you can find the time in your holiday plans.
My husband and I are so pleased that we had the opportunity to spend three nights at Stonehaven. We now feel like we have a New Zealand "family"!

“A Full Immersion Into Kiwi Hospitality”

Stonehaven Homestay

A superb B&B – perhaps the finest I’ve enjoyed anywhere across my five continents of travels.

Stayed two nights in early May while touring the Marlborough wine route. Perfectly situated nearby Marlborough’s finest vineyards and beautifully located within a vineyard of its own.

Owners John and Paulette Hansen were exceptionally warm and I instantly felt like long lost family member. Not merely great hosts, John and Paulette quickly proved to be quite the gourmets. Paulette’s three-course dinners, paired with wines from John’s collection, were most excellent and well worth the nominal additional cost. The included full breakfast was both delicious and filling. It should also be noted that most of the produce served was home grown!

My twin bedroom with downstairs private bath was comfortable and I was welcomed to relax throughout their gorgeous home. Internet and laundry facilities were made available for my use. Perhaps the highlight of my stay, though, was leaving the B&B and wandering throughout the beautiful garden and vineyard.

I cannot more highly recommend this homestay accommodation. Staying at Stonehaven was far more than just a stay – it was a full immersion into Kiwi hospitality.

“Stnehaven is a must!”

From Larry and Sue Ricketts,Denver, Colorado, USA

We have just returned from New Zealand and we must say that one of the highlights of our trip was a two-night homestay at Stonehaven! John and Paulette are terrific hosts, and their home is magnificent, the gardens beautiful, and the food and friendliness beyond compare. We did our laundry and used their computer freely, which was an added bonus. Vineyards surround the property, which is absolutely gorgeous. Everything is impeccable, from the gardens to the bedrooms. Every traveler should take advantage of this gem!
