Spending three nights at Stonehaven with John and Paulette was, without question, a highlight of our New Zealand holiday. My husband and I were welcomed into their beautiful home and were treated like family. John and Paulette are two of the nicest and warmest people you could imagine and their home is a welcome respite for the New Zealand traveler.
They haven't missed a single detail in terms of comfort and beauty. The rooms are tastefully decorated and the beds, with their plump and abundant pillows and wonderful matresses, are a haven after a long day's hike on the Queen Charlotte Track. But don't miss out on spending a few hours (or more!) having tea with John and Paulette. In fact, dinner at their home is a MUST! Paulette is an amazing chef and makes it look simple to prepare a gourmet meal while chatting with her guests. John's advice on just about everything from wine to checking the weather maps is invaluable. Based on his keen knowledge of reading weather maps we were able to find a span of time to hike the QC track in gorgeous weather. He knows the area well and both John and Paulette gave us great advice on things to do and see during our stay and on our drive to Christchurch.
I would suggest spending no less than 2 nights at Stonehaven if you can find the time in your holiday plans.
My husband and I are so pleased that we had the opportunity to spend three nights at Stonehaven. We now feel like we have a New Zealand "family"!
