Great stay, great staff. The Lost Camel while a bit cheaper than the other properties in Yulara (one complex spread over a few miles) was great. Room was very nice with a great bath and shower. The pool is just fine and the mini-bar in the lobby is a good addition with good coffee also. You can walk to the other three properties through the outback and the trails are lighted at night. Walking at night is a treat the stars are amazing. Each property has something, the Camel has the supermarket and other stores, Outback Pioneer has the great outdoor dinning and music. They have shuttle busses that run around the circle that connects the four locations so if you don't want to walk you can still visit the other places with ease. This is an oaisis in the middle of the outback, nothing for thousands of miles around except the Allice. My visit to the red centre was a life changing experiance for sure.

I had read some reviews and thought this would not be very good but for only two days I didn't mind. however it was very comfortable, the pool was good and the staff excellent, very helpful. the only problem and my only gripe is that there is no broadband at this hotel, however having said that I did go to one of the other hotels on the complex and signed up for wireless broadband which was only available in the reception area. apparently not available in any hotel rooms. excellent service and free collecting you from and returning you to the airport.

“Great experience”

Stayed here for two nights in November. Really cannot fault the hotel or the resort. Our room was funky and maybe not to everyone's liking but it suited us and you don't spend a lot of time in the room anyway.

The pool area at the hotel was small but functional-you don't go to Uluru to lie by the pool but it is nice enough to cool down in and chill out for a while when you get back from one of your visits to "the Rock". We had our own car which was great for driving up to the National Park whenever we wanted to. However there are plenty of excursions if you don't have a car.

Our first night there we ate at the Outback Pioneer BBQ which involved purchasing your meat/fish and cooking it yourself on communal BBQs and you could then help yourself to the salad buffet. It was very busy and there were lots of tour groups but it was good fun and very conducive to meeting people. We were just the two of us and had a great evening chatting to people.

The next night we went to Sounds of Silence which is a MUST - sipping champagne on a sand dune between Uluru and Kata Juta, listening to a didgerdoo at sunset, followed by a sumptuous buffet and seemingly limitless wine and a witty look at the night sky with a guide. Wonderful experience. We even hit it off with some of the others at our table and a few of us went back to the Sails hotel for delicious cocktails til the wee hours.

There is a supermarket if you wish to self cater or stock up on snacks and we also had pizza at the Gecko cafe one lunchtime. There is plenty of choice for dining.

Much has been said about the "monopoly" on this resort and how they "rip you off". We had read all about this before we went and expected prices to be extortionate but I have to defend the resort here. We were extremely surprised and did not find the prices at all unreasonable. The cost of drinks and food was the same or not a lot more than we experienced in our three weeks travelling in Australia. And, where they were a little more, we had no difficulty with this, given the location. We felt the owners of the resort should be commended in building somewhere that respects its location and fits in with its environment..

“Back to School”

As most people have said about the Uluru National Park, the prices are inflated for the service received. Voyages own the resort and run a monopoly. As most people are only going to stay to see Uluru / Kata Tjuta at dawn and dusk, there is no need to go wild and throw money at the operator.

That aside, I found the Lost Camel basic but comfortable. It is reminiscent of student halls and Ikea furniture. The room was clean and adequate for the 2 night stay we had. It would be feasible to stay for one night and catch sunset / sunrise then leave.
The pool at the hotel was a good size and great to chill in after trekking around the rock.

The resort has a number of eateries, we had already arranged the 'Sound of Silence' dinner under the stars. Again pricey for the experience but enjoyable just the same. We also ate at the Barby at the Pioneers Lodge. Can you complain about your own cooking?

After chatting with other tourists who were staying at other hotels within the resort, I was glad we chose the cheaper, more basic Camel as the other places didn't sound much better for the extra cost.

I was annoyed having to pay A$35 for the bus to Uluru on top of the $25 for entering the park. The walk around the rock did make up for the cost and I would have been disappointed if I went to Uluru and not go to see it.
We also saw the rock at dawn from a biplane which was excellent and an definetly worthwhile.

the worse hotel I've ever been!!!!
Before booking, I saw its website: it looked good. instead of the photographer who did those photos was good! Actually it is just like a youth hostel!!! my room was near the pool, it was very very small, without windows: the only one was in the restroom...it was dirty : when I arrived, on the floor I could see died mosqiutos, flyes..hair, piles - and they were not mine as I was entering in that moment..and the staff made up the room only in the afternoon...incredible!! I want to advise you: don't choose this hotel!! It will do your trip in Uluru reglettabile!!
