“can't understand why it is a 3-star”

Doubletree Hotel Washington DC

The parking is $26 per day, even though the daily price was OK for us, the final expense was beyond our budget. We stayed for 3 nights, from the first night we had requested for a crib for our baby, but until the last day, we didn't got one. So we three squeezed on the full size bed for three nights. There is no swimming pool in the hotel, no fridge in the room,.no shuttle bus. I just wonder who has rated the hotel as a 3-star? After I placed the bid, I read some reviews online for this hotel. It was pretty scary to know quite a few customers saw mice in the hotel, some in their rooms. So we were expecting mice, but we didn't see one.
On the last day, in the morning around 8 am,while we were still on bed, the cleaning person knocked at the door asking if we were leaving soon. Except for the location, this hotel really doesn't meet 3-star standard.

“Sooooo comfortable”

I loved the Doubletree. Just the bed alone was worth it! I don't know what it was but the bed afforded me the best sleep ever! I had six pillows....unreal luxory.
We got a junior suite...Since I was traveling with a male friend and since we wanted our privacy he took the "living room area" and I took the bedroom. We both had our own TV's and it worked out wonderfully. The Doubletree had a couple of really good restaurants on site. We ate breakfast at "The Cafe" and dinner at night upstairs in the Skydome. We were there during the Cherry Festival so was able to watch the fireworks over DC (one of those pinch me moments" and have dinner and drinks at the same time. Nothing to complain about.

“Would not recommend”

Doubletree Hotel Washington DC

I'll try to be brief. The restaurant on site plays music 24 hrs a day and we had to listen to the bass every minute that we were in our room. We were on the 7th floor even. When we complained, they acted like they couldn't hear it and couldn't do anything because they were full that night.
The room was dirty. The mini coffee bar in our room had opened items and partially used items. Dirty. The drawers in the dresser had pubic hairs in them and so did the bathtub. I could understand the bathtub maybe, but the drawers??
The bathroom was very small. I mean absolutely no more than one person at a time!
The staff was not only not helpful, but most were very hard to understand. They each had a nametag saying where they were originally from, and some had extremely thick accents making it very difficult for them to answer our questions etc.
The bed was comfortable, but other than that, I don't have many good things to say.
I would definitely stay somewhere else next time....somewhere closer to a Metro station preferrably.

“Not a bad choice”

Got this through Priceline 140$ a night during a weekday. Wouldn't have paid more. Price on site was 350$. Hotel is your avg 3 star hotel. Stayed on the 3rd floor and it smelled like smoke. Try to avoid rooms near elevators as they have the ice machine as well and it can get noisy between people wanting to get ice and those going to the elevators. The room itself was acceptable. Location is good and not far from subway station and other attractions. Staff was courteous and check-in was a breeze. Did not eat at the hotel so cannot comment.

“Meh”

Doubletree Hotel Washington DC

I had to book at this property because the hotel in which my conference was held was sold out.

Location/Check-in
First, be very careful and ensure you want to stay at this hotel. Their cancellation policy is a 24 hour one, not a day of, like most Hilton properties I've stayed. I tried to cancel same day, and they weren't having that.

The hotel is a bit far out for my tastes. Is a good 15 minute hike to the nearest Metro (Dupont) and some of the streets are a bit isolated at night, which I don't love. There is a Hopkins University branch very close by so there were a decent amount of students on the streets, which made me feel a little safer. Lots of restaurants on Mass or New Hampshire, so definitely can walk to eat.

Check-in was fine and they accommodated my room requests. Even got a free upgrade, which was nice. Free hot cookie at check-in and staff was pretty friendly. There is a restaurant on site, however I didn't eat any meals there so wouldn't be comfortable rating it. Wasn't able to check out the fitness center or business center.

Room
The hotel does show some age. From the elevator to the hallway to the room itself. Needed a little sprucing up. Because I had a suite, I can only rate the suite, I'm not sure how their standard rooms are. The suite had a nice area to store beverages, drinks and a coffee maker. They gave me two free bottles of water and some snacks as well. The living room had a sofa, ottoman and desk and there was a table and chairs as well. The TV was decent, had closed captioning and good amount of channels.

Bed was very comfortable and they offered different types of pillows, however the linens could have been much cleaner. Alarm clock was fine, however this is the 2nd time in a row that my alarm clock at a Hilton Property had no back-light on the alarm clock so in the dark you have no idea what time it is. Bed was firm enough and slept fine. Wake up call was right on time.

The bathroom was absolutely huge. Almost oddly huge. There was a regular toilet (that seemed to have some power issues, barely flushed) and the bathroom also featured a bidet, which I was scared to use because it didn't look all the clean/new. Never used one before and was at least interesting. Shower had decent water pressure and towels were decently clean. Iron and iron board were fine, nothing super impressive. A lot of the light switches were nasty dirty, which is a really basic housekeeping issue, need some magic erasers or something.

Overall, the one-room suite was very large and was definitely big enough for more than one person. Enjoyed the free beverages and snacks, however housekeeping left a bit to the imagination.
