“Perfect Place to Stay”

Courtyard Washington Convention Center

5 of 5 stars
Venice, Florida
May 1, 2008

We went for a weekend getaway that just happened to coincide with Cherry Blossom Festival. We were able to check in early. The room was comfortable, clean, everything in working order. The hotel staff was always friendly and helpful. Complimentary coffee, tea, hot cocoa in the lobby. Safety a priority and appreciated. Hotel is centrally located...we walked everywhere, but metro is close by also. So many good restaurants within walking distance, as well as all museums, monuments. Don't pass up the National Portrait Gallery, about a block away!!

“Courtyard Convention Center Fits the bill”

We just returned home from a quick Spring Break trip to DC. We stayed at the Courtyard - COnvention Center on Marriott points.
The location is great. 3 blocks from the Mall and right across the street from the Spy Museum. The hotel is a former bank building, so the room layouts are little odd, but our room was fine even with the sleeper sofa open for our 10 year old. We did breakfast in the hotel each day which was a little pricy, but when you consider the ease of use it wasn't bad. As others have said, Ellas Pizza which is across the street past McCormick's is GREAT. We ate there 2 of our 3 nights.

If you are Marriott frequent guest you will be pleased with this property. It's close location to both the Mall and two different Metro stations makes it perfect for vacation stays.

“Great for what we needed”

Courtyard Washington Convention Center

We just returned from a 2 night stay with our 9 year old nephew at the Courtyard Marriott. For what we needed, it was great. The room was comfortable and clean and we had a view from the 10th floor of the Spy Museum. The location is the hotel's prize asset; very close to all DC sights, a few blocks from the Metro, one block from Verizon Center.

We took advantage of the cardio room (2 tread mills did not work) and the pool and spa (to keep my nephew entertained while we worked out.) He loved it. He also loved exploring the hotel to see the remnants of the old bank (fixtures, vault, etc). He thought it was "cool." The staff were very friendly and service was attentive. The built in hair dryer did not work, and when I called for a replacement, one was brought up within a few minutes.

We had a great meal at Ella's Pizza, and if you're in D.C. you must check out Fado only a few blocks away in Chinatown for great food and a fun Irish pub scene. The staff there are wonderful.

“Brilliant hotel-great location-lovely staff”

We absolutely loved this hotel. My 2 sons (17 & 13) and I stayed here just before Christmas and we were treated so incredibly well. At check in, they decided to upgrade our room so we all had a separate bed. The room was spacious, very well cleaned and looked after. We arrived with about a minute to spare before room service closed, but they kept the kitchens open for us, and the food was above average. We found all the staff there extremely friendly. The breakfast room staff were especially great. They were chatty and helpful with tourist info and really keen that we enjoyed our stay there. They really spoilt my sons and kept the food coming out, cooked just for them! The buffet had a good choice and then there were omelettes and pancakes etc, cooked seperately. The pool was very clean and it was a real bonus for us. The location is fabulous for tourists-right next to the Spy Museum, which was great fun, close to the convention centre and all the main tourist 'must-sees' as well as the tourist buses. We would highly recommend this hotel and thank all the staff there for a really great stay.

“Good Location Is A Relative Term”

Courtyard Washington Convention Center

3 of 5 stars

Stayed here for two nights on a business trip. We had an event at the Convention Center at Mt Vernon Square, which was about a 10 minute walk from the hotel.

As others have already posted, this location is quite convenient. I was able to walk to the National Gallery without a problem, stopping along the way for lunch.

There are a number of restaurants nearby, within easy walking distance as well, and they span a fairly wide range of options from Ruth Chris to McD's.

This hotel is a bit odd because it's housed in an old bank building (the sign for the former bank are still there on the outside of the building), so when you walk in, there are large metal gates that seem out of place, and signs that point to the safe deposit boxes. These are just quirks and don't really detract from the overall decor.

The rooms are a bit small, but about what I'd expect in this price range in downtown DC. I had an inner room, which meant that my window overlooked the inner open area in the center of the building, so no exterior views to speak of.

The bed was comfortable, though the TV was in an awkward spot. There was free Internet access, though only wired. Their security scheme doesn't allow you to plug in your own wireless adapter to connect, so it must be MAC address based.

Did not use any of the hotel features, so can't comment on those. The nearest Metro Station is Gallery/Chinatown, but it's enough of a hike so that I wouldn't really consider this as an asset, given how frequent and closely spaced the stations are in DC.

While the area in fine, I was taken a bit aback when I saw that there was sign indicating that you needed to use your keycard for elevator access at all times. Sure enough, without a valid keycard, the buttons on the elevator from the ground floor will not work. I did not see anything, in or around the hotel that would seem to necessitate such an extra security precaution, but the fact that it's there does give me some pause.
