I recently stayed at the Homewood Suites for an entire week, while taking a group of high school students on a trip to Washington DC. The advantages of this hotel are many, including:
1. An extensive breakfast buffet is included.
2. A manager's reception on Monday through Thursday evenings, which included complementary food, beer and wine.
3. Friendly, helpful and knowledgeable staff.
4. Large, clean suites, and a new feel to the entire hotel.
5. A very competitive price. I paid on average $100 per room less than neighboring hotels were offering, and got so much more, including an entire suite, and complimentary meals.
6. A safe neighborhood, where I felt comfortable to walk with my group of students at night.
7. Close proximity to the McPherson Square metro station, and within walking distance to Dupont Circle and the White House. Depending on how energetic of a walker you are, you are within walking distance of the entire Mall.
8. The climate control worked very well for air conditioning and heating, plus there is a ceiling fan above the beds.
The only disadvantages I could identify were that is was a 15 minute walk to the Metro, which some of the people in my group found to be too long. The other one was that even though they had complimentary internet access in the room (which worked very well), it was not wireless, so I had to stay within cord's length of the outlet, and was not able to use my laptop anywhere in the suite.
All in all, this will be one of my top choices when I return to Washington, DC. Last time I stayed in DC, I stayed at the Washington Hilton north of Dupont Circle, and in comparison, fell that I received much more value for the price at the Homewood Suites than at the full service Hilton.
