Loved loved loved this hotel. Not too big - only eight floors. Each suite has two rooms. A living area with TV, bedroom with TV and a kitchen with full size fridge, sink, two burner stove, garbage disposal, dishwasher and microwave. Dishes, utensils and toaster located in the kitchen cupboards. Located at Thomas Circle and a few blocks from the Metro. CVS Pharmacy a quick trip up the block. We used this frequently for bottled waters, sodas, snacks, my children's mac & cheese so I can prepare in the room's kitchen. Best part was the full breakfast in the lobby each morning - hot eggs, sausage/bacon, biscuits and gravy, fruit, cereal, oatmeal, bagels, toast, waffles, french toast.... It really was ideal. Ample seating area for your meals or take it up to your room. Mon-Thu included dinner too but also had salad bar, sodas, wine & beer. Dinner menu is posted on your room's fridge. Breakfast was 6-9 M-F and 7-10 on weekends. Dinner was from 5-7.
We've stayed at the Homewood Suites before in California and were happy to see one in the DC area. We usually stay at Embassy or Homewood and since the room price was the same for each, the full kitchen is what made us choose Homewood.
I give this hotel 5 stars. Our family stayed here for a week in March and were never disappointed. Walked to all the sites in DC and even took the Metro to Mount Vernon and Arlington. Took the DC Circulator bus to Georgetown. Only $1 a ride and you get a two hour transfer too. Ride was 30 minutes tops and a great way to see the rest of the area. Metro and bus very very easy and cheaper than the tour buses. In fact, we even did a tour of the monuments at night but via a cab driver rather than a tour. Tours were charging up to $30 per person and the cab was much more within our budget. He let us out where we asked and took us around to where we wanted to go. You can even check with the hotel's bellman for a recommended driver if that makes you more comfortable.
I found the hotel staff extremely friendly and helpful. Two elevators very very fast. Wired Internet access in all the rooms but a PC area, or business center, in a room near the front desk with two machines, a printer and copier all at no charge. Meals plentiful but can get busy. One day they ran out of plates but they were working as quickly as possible to replenish.
Would we stay here again? Absolutely. Our first trip to DC was memorable and comfortable because of this hotel. It always got us started on the right foot and was a sanctuary at the end of a long day of walking around the city.
