Stayed for a two night stay with another family. I booked both rooms, and arrived at the hotel to find the other family received a room upgrade (to a suite), a significant rate reduction, and complimentary breakfast. When I called to point out the discrepancy, I was told there was nothing that could be done. On top of that, our a/c was broken. Though it was 50 degrees outside, it was about 80 inside, and there was nothing that could cool the sauna that was our room. We shortly discovered that there was a leak somewhere in the room, and the entire carpet in the room was wet, hence the sauna effect. This place is located in what can only be described as hotel alley in West End DC. No excuse to stay here or for Marriott to operate this location. Hallways were dirty, rooms unkempt. The only bright light was that the buffett breakfast was worth the price, and the dining room staff was pleasant. The rest of the staff was pretty lame. The "concierge" steered us to a restaurant where all the other diners were also Marriott guests. Food was inedible and service was horrible at Famous Luigis. Go to Ritz across the street. I moved there after 2 nights at this sad, sad place..

“Valentine's Day in DC (and Georgetown)”

The Washington DC Marriott.
I get a company discount with Marriott, so I've been staying at these hotels quite a bit recently (LA,SF,Philly,LV). And this was one of the better ones. Particularly because of its location, and the service I was given.
Its about 1/2 mile from downtown Georgetown (Ave M) and 1 mile from the Lincoln Memorial and reflecting pool (and the Wash monument, Smithsonian, Amer Indian Mus. Holocaust Mus., White House, etc). If you enjoy jogging, there are great routes all around.
There is a 24-hr CVS right outside the hotel.
Its a safe area. The Ritz Carlton is accross the street and you will mostly find non-threatening college students walking around.
Ok, a few pluses (and then minuses):
+ Location.
+ The Room Service was great! I highly recommend the crab cakes.
+ Great beds! Super soft and comfy.
+ The service was terriffic! This was for a Valentine's Day weekend with the wifey. And eventhough the website stated that no king size beds or higher level floors were available, I was given an upgrade, with a king size bed, extra pillows and a high floor, when I asked at the counter.
After that I feel bad listing some negatives, but here I go anyway:
- The rooms were smallish. Not cramped, but not especially roomy either.
- Its a B on the cleanliness scale. Or at least our room/bathroom was.
- Parking was $39 a day. Kinda pricey. Pretty necessary.
- The pool/gym areas were kinda small. But useful none-the-less.
- The view was nothing special. And I got the feeling there really werent any rooms with terrific views (as the hotel is surrouned on 4 sides by other, taller hotels/office buildings).
All in all...If I went back to DC I would probably stay here again. Enjoy!
(fyi-The Excorcist steps are on Avenue M, at the end of the main strip, next to a gas station, on the right)

We stayed here to attend a conference. Hotel looks like it is pictured. Nice room, great bed, and pleasant staff. Air system was a bit loud in my room; it whistled when the air system was on. Room didn't have a view, suited our needs and was nice and clean. Flat screen television. Coffee maker in room. Good hair dryer in room, not the typical wall dryer. Easy check in and out. Door man helped with taxi and bags.

Starbucks in the lobby for purchase.

“Winter in Washington”

Washington Marriott

Dec 31, 2007

We checked into the Washington Marriott late Friday night, the weekend before Christmas. The hotel had our room set up with a rollaway bed and a quick phone call brought us most of the toiletries and extra towels that were missing. The hotel was obviously recently renovated. It seems as though everything was new except the door frames in the rooms which gave away the age of the hotel(these had not been replaced, but rather painted). The hotel was comfortable especially the bed, but it had no view and the room was tiny. We requested a king room with a rollaway for our daughter. The rollaway barely fit and it was difficult manuevering with it in place. At times I felt that I was in a ship cabin due to the size of the room. The location is quite near to George Washington University and Georgetown, although walking in the wintertime can be difficult. The Metro is a great subway quite expanded since the years that I have been back in the city. The only problem is that the closest Metro stop from the hotel is easily several blocks which again can be problematical in the wintertime. Our room came with breakfast which was a very pleasant buffet with something for everyone. Overall, I would stay at this hotel again, but would try to get a larger room.

“Nice Marriott”

Very Nice Marriott.
The room is great. GREAT bed, linens, nice bathroom, flat screen tv and the concierge floor and lounge were terrific.
If you are staying for the VIEW, you won't get that. In fact the view is terrible. But hopefully you'll be seeing the sights first hand and not from your hotel room. The location is very convenient to two metro stops, Foggy Bottom(closer) and DuPont Circle(about an 8 minute walk) and pretty safe at night. But there is really nothing around the marriott except other hotels, you have to walk several blocks to get to the shops on Connecticut ave or coffee shops.
But, it's DC and walking is the best way to see the city.
It's about a 10 minute walk to the White House and National Mall.
I would stay there again in a heartbeat.
