“Handy location”

Ibis Moussafir Fes

We chose the Ibis principally because of its close proximity to the railway station. We used Fes as our base and made train trips to Meknes and Casablanca. The value was extraordinary as the room was very well furnished and there was a good breakfast with both Moroccan and European food. There was also a very attractive garden and pool which my room overlooked. One of our group even had a small terrace facing the garden. Although there is too much to do sightseeing in Fes to spend time in the pool, I did use the sun loungers a couple of times while waiting for my friends and that was very pleasant. One of the group has British/Moroccan nationality and he got a discount of 20%. We found the staff very pleasant and helpful but this may be because my Moroccan friend spoke to them in Arabic and French. They recommended us to a restaurant in the new part of town called Zagora (5 Blvd Mohamed V, Imb. Tlemsan.) and having found it we ate hardly anywhere else. The cuisine is French and Moroccan, extremely good and quite reasonable. It is no tourist trap like the mansions in the old city that only cater to tourist groups. Although there were some tourists there, there were also many Moroccans. I doubt you could find a better meal or friendlier service in Fes.

“Don't expect a key”

Stayed at this Ibis during our trip round Morocco. Decided on the Ibis based on the trip advisor reviews, it's close proximity to the station and the lack of any other decently priced accommodation in festy Fes. Hotel was less than a minute from the station (handy because all the petits and grands taxis were on strike).

Check in was crappy, mainly because a bus full of ze germans had just pulled up. Finally got into the room, but we left without a key. So went down to reception, told that key was lost and then later it was broken. After saying I'd never stayed in a hotel room without a key, we got free breakie.

Room was okay typical Ibis-style. Our room had a nice little balcony (only one other room had this feature) overlooking the road at the front of the hotel, good for trying to spot whether the taxis were still on strike. Shower kept flooding.

Overall, average and little Moroccan character - apart from the cranky people at reception.

“Value for money, but still a small room”

Ibis Moussafir Fes

We stayed at the Ibis Moussafir in Fes for 4 days in December 2005 and the main reason we booked there was that we could not get a room at a Riad in the Medina...everything was full! Actually, it was an interesting change from the Riad in Marrakech, as we got to see the new city and the people living in areas that are not swarmed by visitors. So we had dinner at restaurants with many locals and we had tea and waterpipe at a cafe with only locals. When we went for late lunch to one of the top-rated restaurants in the Medina we were all alone! Anyway, the hotel itself is a typical 3* property with adequate public spaces, decent breakfast, but small rooms. Fortunately, the bathroom was a fair size for our needs, so we cannot complain too much. Overall, it reflects the fact that it is cheap and therefore worth the money. We would still prefer a Riad though...

“A good choice for the airport or train station”

Ibis Moussafir Fes

Apr 1, 2007

The Hotel Ibis Moussafir, in the Ville Nouvelle of Fez, is very well located for anyone using either the airport (the terminus for the bus to and from the airport is right outside the hotel) or the station (just across the square from the hotel). It is, therefore, already well worth bearing in mind on that basis alone.

For sightseers, it is still no more than 10 minutes from the Medina in a taxi (a petit taxi will cost only a few dirham, c. £0.30 or €0.50 at current rates of exchange).

Like other Ibis hotels in Morocco, it is functional and modern but it provides reasonable value for money and was comfortable, quiet and clean. I also found the staff very helpful and courteous at all times, keen to provide me with recommendations and onward travel information.

I didn't eat dinner at the hotel, but the buffet breakfast provided was very good, with a fresh selection to suit most tastes. For anyone leaving early, the full buffet is available from 06.30 and a more limited breakfast even earlier.

TV was available in my room, with choices in English (BBC World), French, Italian and Spanish.

There is also a large swimming pool for anyone travelling during the summer months.

“Excellent Value in Fes”

Ibis Moussafir Fes

I booked this hotel after having had an excellent experience at the Hotel Ibis in Meknes. The hotel in Fes is located downtown near the train station. The location is very good. It is an older hotel than the one in Meknes; however, it has been taken very good care of and still represents an excellent value for the price paid. A single room with breakfast cost about 40 euros (45 dollars) and that included breakfast. The hotel has limited parking in front and their is a parking attendant (who you should tip when leaving). The rooms were clean as was the bathroom and shower. The breakfast buffet was very good. Overall I am very impressed with the Ibis chain in Morocco and plan to stay at several more of them as I live and work in the country. I highly recommend this hotel for budget minded travelers who want a safe, clean place to stay at a very reasonable price for downtown Fes.
