“Hidden Gem in Fes”

Ryad Mabrouka

Situated on the northern edge of the Medina, Ryad Mabrouka offers a warm wlecome, attentive but unobtrusive service and attention to detail.
We stayed for four nights toward the end of January 2008 - after some difficulty finding the Ryad (a not uncommon problem in Fes!), we walked into an oasis of beauty and calm that proved to be a wonderful retreat from the streets over the rest of our stay.
With seven rooms only, most overlooking the tranquil (and traditional) central courtyard of the ryad, the owners and staff made us feel remarkably welcome. Our very large room was comfortable and functional - and had access to a rooftop terrace overlooking the medina.
The continental breakfasts included in our room price were fresh and delicious - and, on the occasions we chose to eat in the ryad, the food was fresh, Moroccan and uniformly delicious - served with a choice of Moroccan or European wines.
We organised two guides through the ryad - one to show us around the medina - arranged within 30 minutes of our request - and, a few days later, a guide to the Middle Atlas, Sefrou and Bhalil. All money well spent.
I would recommend a stay at the Ryad Mabrouka as an intregral part of a stay in Fes - truly a hidden gem of the city!

“A Pleasant Beginning to a Wonderful Trip”

We arrived at Ryad Mabrouka late at night and were immediately charmed by its ambience and our gracious reception. After a meal beginning with various salads, olives, Moroccan bread, followed by a delicious fish tagine, served with a respectable Moroccan cabernet, and finished with a orange blossom scented fruit salad, we sat in the garden enjoying the serene beauty of the place. Our room was well-furnished, the bed was comfortable, and the bathroom was clean and modern. My wife and I would happily stay at Ryad Mabrouka again and are recommending it to our daughters when they visit.

“Perfect place to stay”

Ryad Mabrouka

Nov 26, 2007

There's little to say. This was as nearly perfect as anywhere I've ever stayed. Beautiful rooms. Fantastic staff. It was just gorgeous. Don't miss this if you are in Fes. In fact, I would go back to Fes in order to stay here again.

“Great find in Fes”

Ryad Mabrouka

Ryad Mabrouka is a fantastic choice for a stay in Fes. It's well situated: relatively easy to access by car & steps away from the main drag of the medina. The courtyard is breathtaking & the garden/pool area is a welcome retreat from the heat and craziness of the medina.

Service is very warm and welcoming, the staff works very hard to accommodate yuor needs. Breakfast is included & very nice in the garden. Also, dinner is available & a wonderfully relaxing event.

Rooms are spacious (incredibly high ceilings) & bathrooms are quite large and have A/C. The only thing is that the rooms open out onto the central courtyard, which is covered. So your windows never open out onto the outside. Also, the doors to the room are the old wooden doors, so it's never quite light or sound proof.

That being said, it contributes to the charm & character of the place. It is like staying in a well-situated, historic B&B with some restaurant capabilities.

“Wonderful Ryad in Fantastic Location”

This beautifully restored ryad was highly praised by others on trip advisor but the reality still came as a pleasant surprise and delight. The owner, Michel, has lived there for six years and spent much of that time restoring this building to its present glory. There's a photo album in the courtyard that shows quite how much time and money has gone into the place, and how determined Michel clearly was to make it totally authentic. The efforts to achieve high standards with great attention to detail hasn't stopped since the restoration though, as the service is always friendly and attentive in a quiet and unintrusive manner. The ryad manages to provide a gloriously peaceful and luxurious retreat from the mayhem of the City streets just down below, which makes for a brilliant way to see Fes. The food is quite typically Moroccan (tagines, of course, couscous and salads) but using somewhat untypical ingredients and interesting combinations. There is no choice offered (again, quite typical of Morocco) so vegetarians will need to speak up in advance! There is an excellent choice though of Moroccan wines, which are remarkably good. It's worth visiting Fes if only to stay at the Ryad Mabrouka!
