“Absolutely loved this fantastic hotel!”

Atlas Riad Medina & Spa

May 20, 2008

After reading the reviews on here we were a little nervous about staying here but in all honesty I have no idea how previous reviewers had bad experiences when we had such a fantastic stay!

Everything about the hotel was great, the food, decor, rooms, pool, staff etc was all top class! If I had to pick one thing that was not 100% perfect and that would be the price of alcoholic drinks in the bar but that was only because of my expectations. I would expect them to be cheap but they were in no way expensive, just similar to London prices.

The food was excellent, with a fantastic choice, masses of salads, tajines, hot food and the puddings were just amazing! It was like being in a patiserrie every day!

The rooms were large, we had 3 adults in one room with plenty of space and the bathrooms were lovely, really nice tiling and lovely toiletries. Even a speaker over the loo so you could hear the tv!

Speaking of the TV, you have access to ITV, BBC1 and more 4 plus one so great if you are in your room and want to watch some British TV!

We never had any problems getting a sun lounger by the pool, there were plenty and the men who worked at the pool would bring you over towels and parasols if you want them. There are also very clean toilets at the pool. The pool itself was a little cold but once you got in it was fine and there is a seating area in the pool which is great if you want to read your book in there.

All staff were friendly and helpful and even though I did speak a bit of French, you would be absolutely fine if you don't.

A taxi to and from the hotel to the airport should cost about 60DH and about 20DH any where in and around the Medina.

I would also recommend Hamman Zianni right by the palace for a completely relaxing experience lasting over an hour for about £20.

“Great hotel!”

2/2 found this review helpful

My wife and I booked this hotel for a week for our wedding anniversary, after booking, started to read the reviews on this site and started to wish I hadnt booked at all, we were very aprehensive about the trip.
I am pleased to say our worries were unfounded.

The hotel is about 15-20 minutes drive from the airport, when you arrive at the hotel you cannot fail to be impressed by the grand marble entrance and reception. (If you do fail to be impressed maybe you are acustomed to the sort of luxury that most of are not)

The staff were very helpful and friendly, all speak a little english (enough to get by) but if you speak a little french this is very helpful.

The rooms are very large, our bathroom bathroom was huge, the balcony overlooked the pool and the view was great. The rooms (and the rest of hotel) are spotless there are staff cleaning 24/7. Although we booked a double room we got a twin. This said ,each bed was a three quarter size and when pushed together (easily done) made for the biggest bed we had ever slept in! You will have probabily read bad things about noise from the club attatched to the hotel, we didnt hear it once but our room was at the opposite side of the hotel and Im not sure if it was even open.

The pool area does get quite crowded and if it is busy there may not be any beds left but there is a member of hotel staff at the pool (all day, every day) who will try to accomodate you by nicking chairs from the outside bar. They also provide all your towels. The pool is refreshing (ie heart stoppingly cold) so be prepared.

Now, food. The breakfast was ok, lots of choice but the same everyday and they serve it till quite late as well if you want a lie in(10.30 I think). We stayed bed and breakfast which I would recommend, we ate twice at the hotel in the evening, once in the a'la carte restaurant (nice but pricy) and once in the main restaurant (ok and very pricy). Would recommend eating out in one of the many restaurants instead (there is an amazing little Italian in the new town behind and to the left of Mcdonalds, ace food, buzzing atmosphere, cheap and licsenced, be prepared to que outside) As a rule restaurants in the new town are liscenced, many in the old town inc the square are not. Lunch at the hotel is more reasonably priced then evening meals, the menu is simple but nice and best enjoyed by the pool bar.

The pool bar is quite expensive compared to places outside the hotel, prices are similar to english prices (2.50 - 3.00 for a beer or wine) staff are friendly and helpful and will serve you by the pool if you wish.

We did not use the spa facilities as they seemed expensive and are not included in the price as some guests seemed to think.

A lot of reviews say this is not a five* hotel, there is some truth in this in that it probabily is not what you expect if you frequent 5* hotels regularly in England or maybe America but lets not forget you are in Africa here, its probably more like a 4*, but I think you could apply this rule generaly (if you book into a 4* it would likely be more like a 3* if you dont like the idea of this probabily not the country for you) but do not let this put you off, this is a wonderful hotel and Marrakech is an interesting vibrant culture shock of a city. Go see it and stay at the Atlas Medina while you do.

“not bad!”

Atlas Riad Medina & Spa

Apr 22, 2008

the place is a good thirty minute walk from the square, it is attached to a nightclub so expect noise at night ie a throbbing noise and you wont know where it's coming from. Nice quiet area, keycards lose their strenghth for opening your room and may need to be recharged at the reception desk, this can be a pain after a few times. The room was nice on the second floor with a view of the pool and the neighbouring sister hotel, morroccan decor, heavy curtains to keep out the light and the bathroom was big enough and had toiletaries and little extras to keep you happy and the room is cleaned once a day. The shop is not that extensive and is pricey, but for a five star in Morocco what would you expect and people would expect you to have money when staying there. All in all a decent week there.

“Definitely not 5 *, possibly a good 3* hotel”

Atlas Riad Medina & Spa

Rooms are clean and spacious, maintenance very poor, eg to change lightbulbs took 2 days !
Dining experience was very disappointing, I foolishly booked half board and by the end of day 2 I was fed up of the repeated breakfast buffet and suppers. Non segregated smoking areas in the dining room, so if you are unfortunate to be caught between two tables of french guest who seem to light up after every course, your meal can be very smokey.
Food was generally bland and lukewarm.
Hotel pool and number of sunbeds too minimal for the number of guests, a case of diving down to the pool early morning to bag a bed with a towel.
In general hotel staff quite ambivalent, not particularly helpful unless you spoke french or arabic.
Spa was fantastic, a real selling point.

I'd rate this hotel from an accommodation perspective as a good 3*, from a dining perspective 2*.

“Hotel was not entirely 5 star!”

Atlas Riad Medina & Spa

Mar 28, 2008

Fairly decent hotel. Looks good, but some of the staff were abrupt and not the most hospitable! The holiday rep (who was a morrocan man) is a sleaze and as i was there with only my sister, felt VERY uncomfortable with his attention, enough to have to complain to hotel manager.

The hotel spa is appealing to look at with extortionate prices to use and for treatments, and where certainly nothing to indulge in as i would rather have saved my money and gone to The Sanctuary in London!

Had a great time in Marrakech though and there are amazing restaurants to go to and the night life is great!

Its a nice get away and would return again but perhaps not stay at this hotel!
