There may be fine hotels, but dont waste your hard earned. Just back from the Hayati, thought we would try a bit of the real Marrakech, we were not disappointed. Taxi transfer back from airport, then a two minute walk down a couple of narrow alleyways to the Riad. Marvellous, enjoyed every experience both in the Riad and whilst out and about, got well lost, but who cares, you soon find yourself again, or for a couple of Dirhams a young enterprising lass on a bike will point you back in the right direction. Meals in the Riad excellent, we were asked each day if we would be dining and if so what we would like to eat, no idea what the options were, we just asked for local food, all served fresh and with wine. Mr Ron, as the staff call the owner, you have a couple of the best staff, most attentive. Bedroom spotless, as was bathroom. Went to Luxor last year, got hassled at every turn, no such bother in Marrakech, yes, plenty want a bit of your wallet but nothing too pushy, the lads working the food stalls approach in good humour, luvverly jubberly as everyone of them says. Went to Hotel Grand Tazi for a couple of sneeky beers, bloke works in there thinks he's George Clooney, wears the worst suit I have ever seen, but enjoyed the non too plush surroundings. You could easily visit Marrakech and spend next to nothing whilst still eating and drinking well, the Riad may not be the cheapest, but treat yourself to a visit, you will not be disappointed. Great touch by Mr Ron to contact us by phone, sadly he was away on business during our stay so we never got to meet him, shame really, during all communications he really gives you the impression that he really cares that you have the best time, would have liked to have met him, might have to go back!
