I went with my partner and 13 year old daughter for two weeks and can honestly say we had a really good time and had a go at everything. The town is a short taxi ride away but please beware of anyone coming up to you, as you get out of your taxi, and saying they "work at your hotel" and "do you not remember them". This happened to us and we unwittingly went for an invited tour of the town with a man who said he was our waiter the previous night. After following him down back streets we eventually arrived at a carpet shop where we were press-ganged into buying a carpet we didnt even want. The Tunisians are quite bullish in their sales technique and we only went to the town on two other occasions. You have to be firm and just say no thankyou and walk away, which goes against the polite English way. The hotel had only been reopened a couple of weeks when we arrived and the Entertainment Team were all new but they were extremely good given the lack of costumes and props. The food was very good and varied and the pastries and cakes, a speciality of Tunisia, were out of this world! The room was very clean although the bath had been painted with gloss paint and should really have been replaced. On the beach there were activities for the children and there is a guard to stop the passing vendors forcing their goods onto the tourists. My only comment is they could do with a beach cleaning operation as there was quite abit of litter and I picked a broken bottle up from the sand and placed it on a wall because there were no bins. I certainly recommend the trip but I think two weeks was a little long, maybe 10 days would have been better.

My advice to all potential visitors:

This is a very family-orientated hotel that caters more for Germans and French than English.

The rooms are clean, but basic. Our TV did not work.

The hotel is located very close to the beach, but nowhere near anything else e.g. no shops or bars.

The wine is like vinegar and the other drinks included in the all inclusive package are limited (no vodka, gin or cocktails unless it's happy hour - we didn't stay that long!)

The staff, on the whole, were very pleasant but if you are female and not travelling with men the younger guys will hit on you at every opportunity. And I mean ALL the time.

We asked to change to their sister hotel in Hammamet and would definitely NOT go back!

“Great for entertaining kids”

We stayed at the hotel from 5th-10th April having moved from the Miramar Carthage Palace due to this hotel being unsatisfactory.
When we arrived there were around 15-20 people, of these the majority were french and german, this did not pose a problem as it ensured that my school french was put to use. However, you should ensure that if you go to any hotel or travel in tunisia, go with a little french as this will go a long way to ensure that you can barter and not get ripped off. By the 2nd day of our stay at Caribbean world more kids arrived for my 15 year old son and things really hotted up!!, kids and adult entertainment staff are attentive, friendly, and engage you in all activities even if you just want to sit and chill by the pool with your book, they are not overbearing so respect you doing this also. I went to the Hamman and had a fantastic massage followed by a manicure and pedicure which was fantastic, I felt my son was safe at all times. The food is fairly good and a stay of longer than a week would have meant a touch of boredom would have set in. Taxi's are prohibitive in cost compared to the local train. If you want to travel to Tunis, take a cab from outside this hotel for a pound and jump of the old train at Borj Cedria which cost £1.75, takes 45 mins and you get to see the urban spread of modern tunis and its surrounding towns.
The nearest airport is tunis airport and journey takes around 45 minutes, we had a really friendly driver who was alittle crazy but hey that is part of our experience!!!. All in all I would return to this hotel as it is cheap and cheerful and my son wants to come back and he is a really good barometre of hotel quality. The beach is ok, dont expect clear still waters, this is still the med and is cold.

“My review...”

Fristly, be warned about the time it takes to get from the airport to the hotel. I went with my boyfriend and after an hour long journey on the first coach we were transfered to a mini van with just us in. This took us an extra couple of hours as we flew to monastir airport instead of the nearer tunis airport. When we arrived there was little staff and none that spoke particularly well english, however they were really helpful and happy to help.

The weather was generally really good, very sunny and warm. Although at nights it did get a bit chilly with a light wind.

The staff were all really helpful, very polite and cheerful! The maids were also great and kept our room spotless.

Even though we were both ill for quite a while the food was generally good. The breakfast was by far the best - pancakes, bread, eggs etc. But stay away from the weird looking chicken as it has loads of tiny bones. Plus the hotel does seem to be generally based around the germans, as some of the food was a bit odd. We stayed here for two weeks an only met around 8 other english people so maybe not the best holiday if you want to socialise and meet people.

The beach was amazing! Lovely blue sea and golden sand.

We loved the holiday! Oh and we had a TV in our room but read somewhere that if you wanted to watch it you have to pay at the reception for an ariel. Although we asked and they gave us one straight away and didnt have to pay a thing.

we had read some terrible rewiews about caribbean world before we left for our holiday and were very worried .
we have just returned on the 29th oct 2005.
we had nothing to worry about, the staff were very freindly, the food was very varied and very much edible with plenty of choice even for our 2 small boys.
the hotel was kept extremely clean, our room was large and very clean.
the beach was beautiful, plentyof sunbeds.
the pools area was spotlessly clean.
i would advice anybody to ignore all the poor reports they dont know what they are talking about!!!!!!!!!!!!! go there and enjoy.
