“Never met such a wonderful people”

City Crown Hotel

May 7, 2008

Such a friendly people...not only at our hotel, but everywhere else in Taiwan! The hotel was very modern en our room was lovely. From reception to housekeeping: The service was excellent! There's a small coffee corner in the lobby with great coffee and yummie cakes, the drinks at the bar were nicely served! Food at the restaurant wasn't bad but just around the corner you can find plenty of shabu shabu restaurant wich were fabulous!

“pay attention”

City Crown Hotel

Oct 12, 2007

pay attention there is no way this is 5 star hotel. Maybe just 4 star. What they claim is a gym gets crowded if there is more than 4 people in it, sauna - oh yeah the cupboard with steam coming out of it. Changed its name now due to the Rebar scandal last year where the owner ran off with all the money. Staff nver flexible even when you ahve stayed several times as I have. Bar closes very early and the waiters have no idea how to mix a drink. Rooms are well worn and the internet service is over priced and patchy to say the least. It is miles from any good locations and the only way to move around is taxi.

“Ordinary”

City Crown Hotel

3 of 5 stars
hong kong
May 6, 2007

I booked this hotel through a travel agent where the rate is only HK$770 for a 5 star hotel, I think the price is reasonable.

As I was travelling with my aged Mom, I need to use taxis a lot and therefore have no worry about taking the MTR/trains.

The lobby is small and not so welcoming but the rooms are spacious and neat. Bathroom is clean and modern.

Staff is friendly and we can sit (instead of standing) to do the check -in procedures.

Breakfast is just ordinary and the restaurant really needs some refurbishing.

“Good, but not good enough”

I'm a Priority Club member and the Rebar was the only Intercontinental Group in Taipei or Taiwan, so I stayed there for 3 nights in March 2007 despite some negative reviews about its location. It may be not be next to any underground station, but I could see Taipei 101 from my window and I guess that it would have taken me 15 minutes to get there on foot or just 10 to the City Hall station. And it's on a busy street, which is a plus.

When you enter the Rebar you get a feeling of "faded glory"; the hotel is in need of being refurbished, especially the lobby or the fitness centre. I've never been in such an old sauna, and it's not a nice feeling, even if it was clean.

I stayed in the Club Floor. The Club itself was always unattended, but I could use the PC every time I wanted so I can't complain really. The room was pretty nice and it looked as though it had been refurbished recently. Good toiletries (L'Occitane, Colgate) and basically everything you may need.

The owner of the hotel, the Rebar Group, was caught in a financial scandal lately and the hotel is to be auctioned by a bank. It may be with the hotel needs (although an underground station nearby would help too...)

“good but outlying”

Very good hotel. plus: very nice and spacious room (got free upgrade, executive floor), very friendly hotel-staff, supermarkets, bakeries and lot of different restaurants in short walking distance
minus: 15-20min walk to metro (or take bus to metro), shower wall was not 100% leakproof, no good view from room

we had room 1519 (photos), stayed 2006-10-19 till 2006-10-21
due to the location - I would try another hotel the next time, although itself was excellent
