“Hotel full of promise that generally disappointed”

The hotel is reasonably centrally located in BKK close to Chitlom and the other main shopping malls. It suffers slightly from being remote from a Skytrain station unlike other hotels but even in April it wasn't an impossible walk. The main issue with the hotel was it is ageing and the staff were generally indiifferent apart from folk working in cafes and the bars.

We were upgraded to a top floor room (not much better I suspect than the rest). Night 2 we were woken up by a loud noise above the ceiling at 0530 - staff at reception were slow to respond and in the end we only got through to them because my wife is Thai. After much toing and froing they discovered it was a hot water boiler which they then turned off. Having got over that and been sent some chocolates after I complained the next night one of the hinges came off the door so we could not shut it - a relaxing hour or two in the hotel turned into hammering and drilling. We did get a free breakfast in the Executive Lounge but it wasn't brilliant!

There are much better places to stay in this area of BKK. Maybe once they have finished refurbishment it will be better but I would advise booking with caution.

“At home in the Amari Watergate”

Amari Watergate Hotel

I definately experienced this hotel as 'my home in Bangkok'. A place which is in good shape and with lots of facilities (try the 'Thai on 4' restaurant!). But what is really outstanding is the personal care of staff. Can you imagine a GM of a hotel this size literally going 'round every day. I'd never thought hotels of this size can be as personal as the Watergate.

I specifically like this hotel because of its location. You may think, it's not at the river bank. However, it's right in the heart of the Pratunam district, surrounded by markets, many shops, the fantastic Pantip plaza IT-department store and close to the BTS sky train. And at surprising fares for a five star hotel. Thai as Thai should be.

“Excellent choice from the Lonely Planet”

Amari Watergate Hotel

May 5, 2008

We chose the Amari out of the Lonely Planet as we needed somewhere to stay before heading off to Europe. We managed to get an excellent rate on the hotel's website and we extremely excited when we pulled up late at night. The hotel is really quite amazing. The breakfasts were fantastic with an excellent choice of different foods and a great view over the city. We ordered room service one night and it was delivered very quickly and the food was delicious. I loved lounging around the pool area while my fiance was pounding out the miles at the great gym. We would highly recommend this hotel and will definitely stay there again.

“Pampered”

Amari Watergate Hotel

4 of 5 stars
Bristol, UK
May 4, 2008

Very well looked after, almost embarrasingly so. Good restaurants, especially the Thai one. Good rooms (we were upgraded to a tower room). Travel centre and business centre extremely efficient. Location a bit isolated from the sights.

“Good quality food”

Amari Watergate Hotel

3 of 5 stars
Hong Kong
Apr 30, 2008

We requested and got 2 adjoining rooms as we were travelling with our children 17 & 10 yrs. Rooms were large and well appointed with comfortable but firm beds. The location is ideal for shoppers but not much else to do in the area entertainment wise if you do not want to shop. I was a bit disappointed with the dark reception/lobby area and the weird smell that pervaded the corridors due to the fact that this area was not airconditioned but thankfully the rooms were v comfortable and made up for it. we did end up having an enjoyable holiday and I would fully reccommend the ABC Bicycle tour which we booked separately and was the highlight of the trip. I would rate this more a 3+++* not a 4* hotel
