“Good value. More than I expected”

President Solitaire

Stayed 3 nights (1-4 April), and the overall experience was much nicer than I expected. I stayed in an Executive Suite which was laid out exactly as it appeared on the hotel's website. The bathroom has a seperate shower and bath tub.

The large LCD TV was nice, several English language channels, free WiFi--be sure to get username and password during check in, 2 free bottles of water, large refrigerator, and even a couple of electric burners.

The hotel is about at least a 10 minute walk from Sukhumvit Road which is a major avenue and location of nearest Sky Train station (Nana). I like to walk, so no big deal. If you walk anywhere in Bangkok, you should expect uneven pavements, no pavements, broken pavement, pavments crowded with food carts and vendors, etc.

Metered taxis were always parked outside the hotel, and taxis are cheap. My ride from the airport (at about 11pm) was 300 baht which included tolls and to the airport (at about 430am) was about 250 including tolls. Guide books say to always take a metered taxi to avoid ripoffs.

Had 1 lunch and 1 dinner in the hotel. It was good and reasonably priced. It appeared that there were large groups of Thais eating there, so that is a good sign. 10% service charge included in the check--only realized after I left a 15% tip.

There was a uniformed security guard in the lobby near the elevators from sunset to sunrise. Several friends have asked, so I will share. The price of the room is for 2 people. If you are alone and make a new friend in Bangkok, there is no additional fee if your friend wants to visit your room. For security reasons, the hotel staff may ask to see your friend's ID. This information was volunteered to me by hotel staff when I checked in alone NOT from personal experience. I did not see any "non family friendly" activities while I was there.

There is a 7-Eleven, ATM, Bed Supper Club, Hillary 3 Bar, a German beer garden right around the corner. The distance from the main streets made this a quiet hotel.

I would stay here again and recommend to anybody who asks me about Bangkok.

Dear TokyoBob1975,

Thank you for taking the time to give your kind comments on your stay at the President Solitaire.
We are very pleased to hear that our hotel exceeded your expectations and that you enjoyed your suite and the facilities provided such as 42" Plasma TV, free Wifi, and full kitchenette.
The President Solitaire is indeed located a 10 minute-walk only from the main road and a complimentary shuttle service is provided throughout the day to the skytrain and underground stations as well as to Bumrungrad international hospital.
Thai food and western favourites are available at the hotel's restaurant and many other restaurants and popular nightspots are located within walking distance.
Thank you again for recommending our hotel to fellow travelers and we look forward to welcoming you back again to the Solitaire shortly.

“Perfect Choice”

President Solitaire

I was to visit Bangkok with my wife as part of our delayed honeymoon and we searched and searched and finally set up on President Solitaire based on the property website and numerous reviews.
Our experience was very very good.
From the time of booking online through emails, the staff was extremely courteous and helpful even via emails. We reached there and our check in procedure was quick and accurate.
Our room exceeded expectations and was very clean. The porter was helpful and polite. The photos on the website are quite accurate and not embelished like some other hotels do.

The swimming pool was small but quite nice. We went down to the pool quite late in the evening but inspite of no one being there (staff wise) we were still allowed to use the pool which was nice.
The room service was prompt and the deserts delicious.
Breakfast was another area where they surpassed themselves. We actually reached about 1/2 hour after the time limit for buffet, but we explained to them that there was some misunderstanding about the time and they very sweetly agreed to serve us breakfast at no extra charge.
The concierge desk was also helpful in deciding how to get to places we didn't know.
Check out was quick too and the best thing I remember about all this is the smiles we always got from all the staff.
We will definitely stay here again, no doubt about that.

“Disheartened.”

This was our first trip to Thailand for my wife and I and had great expectations of relaxation and value for money. Everything went well arriving at the airport, immigration, the hotel car to the hotel and the room. We couldn’t fault anything; we arrived on an early flight and we’re able to check in at no extra cost as the room was ready. In the evening we toured the local area and restaurants and where still not disappointed. Breakfast the next morning was nicely located on the second or mezzanine floor with the choice of eating inside or out and the food was nice and plentiful. The swimming pool and area is not huge but sufficient with no towels left on the sun beds as reservation for later in the day. It's the first time I have been in a pool where you can listen to music whilst under water. Then it starts going down hill. We decided to go on a trip and the concierge took my wife to a travel agent in a tut-tut to book a tour of the river in the afternoon. On our return having enjoyed the trip we went to the hotel promoted James the Tailor and felt I was completely ripped off and would have been better using one locally. When we left the hotel we asked the porter to get us a metered taxi to the airport which he eventually did as the first two where not, but obviously his associates. Overall the hotel was good and I would stay there again if I ever went to Bangkok again. The next hotel we stayed in was the Lebua at State Tower.

Dear Arbroath,

Thank you for your review of our hotel.
We are pleased to hear that you stayed at the President Solitaire for your first trip to Thailand and that you enjoyed the hotel and its location as well as the Breakfast offered at our Dining Room restaurant. The swimming pool indeed offers underwater music which is very much appreciated by our guests.
We are sorry to hear that you were disappointed by the tailor recommended by our concierge. The hotel tries to always offer good advice on shopping and other requests based on recommendations from specialized guides as well as feedback from our guests. We have well noted that this tailor is not up to standard and will remove this tailor from our list. Regarding excursions in and around Bangkok, the hotel now offers a tour desk at the Lobby that can provide information on tourist attractions and assist in arranging half and full days tours for our guests.
We would like to apologize for the disturbance caused by the taxis parked across the hotel. These taxis are to be avoided by our bellmen and taxi meters are to be called from the main street directly.
Thank you again for taking the time to give your comments on your last stay.
We look forward to welcoming you back again shortly.

Nathalie Burtin

“Problem solved”

I posted a review last year under the heading"hot and humid solitaire" detailing my dissatisfaction with the air con on the upper penthouse floors. I decided to stay again anyway for the months of Jan thru March(2008) and am happy to report they seem to have addressed the problem and all is well. The staff has gone out of its way to see to it my stay is a first class experience and they even made a point of giving me a birthday cake on my birthday(they noticed the date on my passport) which I found very thoughtful. Also I'd like to acknowledge that the in house restaurant has superlative fare at prices very competitive if not better than other restaurants in the neighborhood. The rooms are spacious and very reasonably priced and the hotels proximity to local nightspots(Bed Supperclub, Q Bar etc)can't be beat. Soi 11 off Sukhumvit is buzzing with activity and the locale is becoming a mecca of sorts. Also if you're doing medical tourism world famous Bumrungrad Hospital is just down the block.I hope to stay here on future trips. bones54(JP)

Dear Bones54,

Thank you for your kind comments on your last stay with us. We are glad to hear that you have enjoyed the improvements that we have made to our Air-conditioning system further to your earlier stay with us last year.
We are pleased that our team managed to exceed your service expectations and that we had the chance to make your birthday a special day at the Solitaire.
The hotel restaurant is indeed very reasonable priced and offers good quality Thai and western specialities.
You mentionned that the convenient location of our hotel is a great asset with the Bed Supperclub and Qbar being just a stone's throw away. We indeed have many regular guests choosing the Solitaire for its excellent location.
Bumrungrad International hospital is very near by as well and the hotel provides free shuttle service throughout the day to the hospital as well as to the main street, skytrain and major office buildings in the area.
We have well noted your comments on the exercise bikes provided in the fitness and will look into adding some lifecycles as recommended.
Thank you for the pictures you took from your suite that show well the nice lay out of the room and especially the wonderful city views from the Penthouse floors.
We look forward to welcoming you back again to the Solitaire shortly.

We were enjoying this excellent hotel staying 4 nights in its Solitaire suite, which was a high class level. It is within walking distance of Sukhumvit road where you can find all kinds of restaurants, shops and there is a night market, as well.
The room is very spacious and beautiful and it has its separate living area with a kitchen. The stuff were nice and professional and the braekfast was very good. We would recommend this hotel to everyone.
Ananda spa is a beautiful place and they are very professional. Try traditional thai massage.
I only don't suggest to pick up the taxi's which are waiting in front of the hot

Dear Sabinasta70,

Thank you for the very positive review of our hotel. We are glad to hear that you enjoyed our large 1-Bedroom Solitaire Suite and the facilities it provides. The location of the President Solitaire is indeed a real advantage with many nice restaurants, fashionable night spots such as Bed Supperclub and QBar within walking distance, in addition to the hotel's own restaurant offering excellent Thai and western favourites.
We have well noted that you appreciated as well the friendly service provided by our team.
Our Ananda Spa indeed offers excellent Thai massage as well as a good selection of oil massages and other body treatments at very reasonable prices.
We are sorry to hear that you were inconvenienced by the local taxi drivers parked nearby the hotel. Our bellmen are recommended to avoid using these taxis and call a meter taxi directly from the street to avoid any inconvenience to our guests.
Thank you again for taking the time to write your review. We look forward to welcoming you back to the Solitaire in the near future.
