We are just back from a wonderful week in Thailand. After much searching we came across the Majestic Grande (---) website. In all honesty it was the website that sold the hotel to us. It was so beautifully presented we knew the hotel must be of a high standard. A little more surfing and we managed to find a great price so went ahead and booked.
Our flight arrived early so we were at the hotel 3 hours before check in time. No problem, the Front Desk staff greeted us with a welcome juice and within 20 minutes our room was ready. We were thrilled to be given an upgrade to an executive room on the 23rd floor. The room was lovely and well furnished. Spotlessly clean and I can honestly say the most comfortable bed I have EVER slept on. Tea and coffee supplies were replenished on a daily basis as was the complimentary bottled water.
The bathroom was a granite delight with luxurious toiletries, fluffy towels and even a hairdrier for whoever needs.
Each morning we had breakfast at the hotel. The food was superb, choice more than enough to cater to all tastes and service was first class. We sat outside by the pool to eat but there are plent of tables inside too.
The spa is wonderful and a massage is a must during your stay. Prices are very reasonable compared to other hotels so make the most of whats on offer.
Our week flew by and we were sad to leave. The Majestic Grande has a four star rating on most websites but definately deserves 5 stars for service, quality, facilities and price. We will definately stay there again and will be telling all of our friends and family about the best place to stay in Bangkok.
A few notes about Bangkok:
Only use metered taxis and insist the meter is started when you enter the cab. It will start at 35 baht. Non metered taxi's grossly over charge and insist on stopping at shops of their 'sponsors' whether you like it or not.
The Bangkok Sky Train (BTS) is a cheap and very easy way to get around Bangkok. It does get very busy around 5 - 6 pm. The metro (underground) is amazing. Spotlessly clean, organised and very safe. It has connections to the BTS and between them you can reach most of the main shopping areas in Bangkok.
To get the best sight seeing opportunities use the Public Boat that goes up and down the Chao Phraya river (best place to get it is next to the Royal Orchid Sheraton Hotel) . For 100 baht you can get a 1 day pass that allows you to hop on and hop off all day long. It stops near the major tourist attractions and with your ticket you will get a small guide book that tells you the best places to visit.
Around the major attractions, Grand Palace, Wat Po (reclining Buddah) etc beware of men offering you tourist advice. Do NOT believe them when they tell you attractions are closed and never buy your entrance tickets from them. They are scam artists and cannot betrusted.
Riding a Tuk Tuk can be a fun experience and also very cheap but just as the unmetered taxis do, they will also insist you visit their sponsors shops.
For the bst shopping Siam Square is the best stop on BTS. The Paragon Center has superb shopping and a fabulous food court. Also home to a great aquarium and cinema complex. For market style shopping 6 floors high you can't beat MBK. Suan Luam night market is right outside Lumpini underground station and is open from 6pm - 1am. Here is the perfect place for all your take home souvenirs and you can get great foot massages for 300 baht per hour. Not to be missed.
