“Loved it!”

Stayed in the hotel for 3 nights. I really looked forward to a nice and clean room as shown in the hotel website and i did! what you see is what you get! Loved the bed, TV, sofa and mini table. There is Hansa Spa and healthcare down the street (2 mins walk) for a completely relaxing massage/body scrub for a reasonable price.... Highly recommended! Only problem is the walk to the BTS station, is about 10mins. Room service was pretty fast and the cost of the food in the hotel was reasonable too. You can practically find food in every street of this area. Stay here!

My wife and I stayed at the Unico Grande Sukhumvit (there is more than one Unico in Bangkok) for three days and loved it. We had never been to Bangkok and were looking for a decent stay in a good location. This Unico was perfect for that. If you have never been to Bangkok, understand that you can have a very nice hotel wedged in what looks like a very "authentic" neighborhood.

Think of the Unico as a 4-star hotel in a 2-star neighborhood, but again, that's most of Bangkok anyway. Don’t expect manicured gardens and a 5-story tall Lobby. This is a quaint hotel, not a monster chain-hotel. Don’t judge it when you first drive down that crowded little street to get to it.

We felt very comfortable walking around here. Street vendors selling yummy fresh fruit and noodle dishes were everywhere and very friendly. The location is about 2 blocks from a Sky-Train station, the high speed mass-transit system which can easily zip you across town to the local weekend markets or the polished high-end malls for about 40 baht. Overall getting around from the Unico was very easy. There are also plenty of cabs and tuk-tuks (open-aired three wheeled noisy hold on to your butt cabs) to get you around to nearby locations for 100-400 baht.

The service was excellent, the restaurant good, room service top notch. We didn’t go to the pool. The front desk very helpful in giving directions. Grab a couple of their business cards from the front desk, they have a map on the back. These can be very helpful in getting back to the hotel via tuk-tuk or cab, just give it to the driver so you don’t have to try to explain where it is, which can be difficult. Oh, and negotiate the fare *before* you get in the cab! Once in the cab, they got you. Prices can really vary.

If you really want to experience the flavor of Bangkok, don’t stay in a high-rise 4-star westernized glass tower (we did that too on a different trip), stay here instead. We really enjoyed it.

Stayed here for two nights for a brief stop in Bangkok before heading north. We booked based on the reviews on tripadvisor and on the value of the rate. Nothing to complain about the hotel was just as we anticipated. It was clean and the staff was helpful. The rooms are spacious and tidy with some extras like a safe and sitting area. Although the hotel isnt a fancy chain or large hotel it does well. Breakfasts are ok...enough to get the day going. A bonus is the free internet terminals in the lobby.
The location is good and central but requires about a 5min walk to get to the main street. Its right across the street from a top hospital frequented by westerners and next to the Pakistan embassy. I would reccomend you print out the map on website as this may be hard to find for taxis coming from the airport. The train station is a 10min walk - about halfway b/w two stations.
My only real complaint was they gave us two twin beds instead of the queen we booked.
A tip: You can save some $ by going down the street for a massage instead of using the hotel one.

“No complaints”

I thoroughly enjoyed the hotel. The rooms were very clean. The staff was great. And the rooms have safes inside - you can change the code daily if you want. I thought the breakfasts were good and there are computers in the main lobby. There's even software on the computers to edit digital photos. The only downside is that taxis have a difficult time finding it because it's not on a busy street.

We used Tripadvisor to select this hotel and it was just as expected. The hotel is clean, well run and staffed with friendly, helpful people. The restaurant offered good Thai food (we didn't try any other dishes) and reasonably priced beer. In fact our meals were as good as what we ate in the nearby JW Marriott and were a fraction of the cost. For the price per night, this hotel is hard to beat.

The Skyrtain is only a 10 min walk from the hotel, and from there you can change at Siam to get the train to the Central river stop for the boat taxis. As a couple this is easy but I could imagine it being tiresome with a young family.

The area around the hotel felt secure and we walked it a number of times at night without incident.
