“fantastic stay”

Grand Millennium Sukhumvit

I stayed at the millenium as they were offering a good rate of around $130. In response to an earlier review the service has now been sorted out.nothing was too much trouble in fact the staff made my stay very memorable.room service was well priced and of high quality.I have stayed in many of the five star hotels in Bangkok including the pen and oriental as well as both Marriott properties.this property surpasses them all on all fronts including service.great value!

“Excellent Hotel with over the top Service”

Grand Millennium Sukhumvit

Seaford
Dec 12, 2007

We had three nights and the Grand Millennium early December. Yes it was the hotels soft opening but it was excellent. You did hear the odd hammer or bang here and there but it never once effected our stay. The rooms are one of the best i have seen in the world. We have stayed and many 5 star properties but this one is the best we have seen. We had a club room and the staff in the club lounge could not do enough for you. The only complaint we had regarding this hotel was the tiny pool that is in total shade after 11am. We had had 2 weeks in the sun prior though, so it was not the worst thing, but still a dissapointment. Also the rates are really really cheap at the moment so if heading to Bangkok stay here for sure.

“Decent Alternative to Sheraton Grande, Westin Grande”

Grand Millennium Sukhumvit

4 of 5 stars

Here are my notes from an early December stay at the new Millenium Grand Sukhumvit Bangkok: I overall thought it a good, solid deluxe hotel that was situated at a convenient location. It doesn't offer the uber-convenience offered by the Sheraton Grande and Westin Grande Sukhumvit hotels, but at the right price this would make for a very good alternative.

The Hotel: Opened November 2007, so everything felt & smelled brand new at the time of my stay. There were a few things still under construction, but the noise was kept to daylight hours and was not obtrusive.

The Room: I stayed in Room 916, a Deluxe King (presumably the standard) room. Overall you see lots of dark wood, polished metal, and glass -- Basically your nice early 21st-century furnishings. The building architecture makes for the large window to be placed at an unusual angle, but it's fine. The room layout features one of those glass-wall-enclosed bathrooms, which generally worked well for me given single occupancy. It does make the room look & feel larger, but I'm not sure how well the setup works for multiple guests. Bathroom fixtures were nice Dornbracht / Hansgrohe - style things. No bathrobe. There's a mysteriously interesting multi-connector data port on the wall next to the TV set (HDMI to TV, USB port, etc) but if you're like me you carry about a mini-to-RCA cable for iPod playback, and so the panel was pretty much useless. Except for maybe recharging with the USB cable. Very comfortable bed.

The Staff: Courteous, friendly, and efficient. I checked in past midnight and checked out at 4:30am. (United Airlines users will recognize this pattern in/out of BKK!) Zero waiting at both ends, and everything was handled efficiently. I rang the "one-touch service" number at 1am to ask about the wireless internet connection and got an intelligent response; I asked for a metered taxi to the airport at check-out and got one with no waiting.

Location: There's an entrance to the Sukhumvit subway station across Asok Rd. but you can't cross there -- it's a good 8-10 lanes of heavy traffic. It took me 5 minutes to the platform of the station by walking south on Asok on the hotel side, past Soi Cowboy, to the Subway entrance. Expect to breathe lots of vehicular exhaust on this walk, as Asok Rd. is a busy street. You can then use the subway concourse as an underpass to get you across Asok Rd., and connect to the Asok Skytrain station. So all in all, the location is pretty good. In the past I've always stayed at either the Sheraton Grande or Westin Grande hotels at the same intersection, and have come to really appreciate the direct connection to the Skytrain station that they offer. (The Sheraton in fact now has a walkway that connects their lobby to the Skytrain station.) The Millenium Grande isn't *that* convenient to transit, but the walk is no longer than what you'd have to do at the Conrad or JW Marriott. Taxi drivers will very likely have no idea where the hotel is located, since it's new -- be sure to grab a taxi card, or just ask them to take you to Sukhumvit / Asok intersection (or Soi Cowboy, really) and redirect from there.

Conclusion: Would I choose Millenium Grand over Sheraton Grande or Westin Grande at the same price? Likely not. But at the right price (this stay was booked at USD 107 including tax & service, as a grand opening promo rate via hotelclub.com) it's nice to have this in the pocket as a good-value alternative.

The Grand Millenium is a very nice new hotel, however whoever picked out the carpet must be color blind. The open atrium in the "sail" has a very dizzying effect at higher floors because of the carpet.

The hotel is going through some "opening" pains. I arrived at 8:00pm and had to wait almost an hour before my room was ready. There were no "amenities" in the room - Pen, Paper, Information Book, Room Service Menu, etc. The maid service was not up to 5 star standards - left room at 10a.m. and the room was still not made up at 5p.m. The room service food, was way below average.

The room itself is very nice, but is rather small. The bed is very comfortable with high quality linens. The bathroom is large and very nice, with seperate tub (which had a huge "scar" obviously from construction) and shower (choice between "standard" or overhead
"rain").

The hotel is in a very convenient location for getting around Bangkok.
A very short walk to both the the Skytrain and the Metro.

I got an excellent rate of $107/night and at that rate I would stay there again. At some of the other rates I've seen ($140 and up) I would stay elsewhere.
