“A lovely hotel”

Ayatana Hamlet And Spa

5 of 5 stars
Sydney
Mar 26, 2008

We have just returned from 10 days in Thailand, four of which we stayed at the Ayatana Hamlet Spa Hotel in Chiang Mai. This was our first visit to Chiang Mai as we had booked prior to leaving Sydney Australia to visit the Elephant Nature Park in Chiang Mai so we wanted a hotel we could just relax and enjoy afterwards (my husband attended a business conference in Bangkok prior to arriving here). We weren't disappointed. When we first stepped into the foyer of this lovely hotel and looked beyond to their pool patio area, we were knocked out by it. It was lovely and we were already impressed. The reception desk staff were so friendly and helpful we knew we had chosen the right accommodation and that impression only got better as we entered our room which was cool and roomy. Decorated in typical Thai tropical style with double wooden doors leading from our shower recess on to a latticed balcony for privacy, it was delightful. It was such a treat for us to open this up in the early morning to hear the birds chirping away outside. We used the hotel's free shuttle service and went to the Night Bazaar that first night and sampled some typical northern Thai dishes for dinner (we took a tuktuk back to the hotel). The following night, after a full day out with the elephants in the heat and dust, we welcomed a cool dip in the hotel's pool then after a relaxing drink beside their pool, we dined in the hotel's restaurant. It was delicious. So much so, that we ended up dining there the following 2 nights of our stay. The meal was inexpensive and we were still able to enjoy local Thai dishes. I even requested and received the chef's recipe for his delicious homemade pandanas leaf coconut ice-cream. With free internet service for patrons, it was really lovely sitting at their computer next to an open doorway which gave me the feeling I was sitting on a verandah. It was blissfully quiet at the time we stayed but I was told they were expecting a larger crowd due to the 'water festival' that was approaching. Am planning to return to the Ayatana next year. Wonderful!

We loved the Ayatana! We stayed there five nights on our honeymoon, and as it was the off season, there were very few guests in the hotel. The rooms are decorated beautifully in a traditional Northern fashion, and the pool area is a quiet and very nice place to relax. Mostly we want to thank the staff for being so very attentive and friendly. We will definitely return.

“Loved Ayatana”

We stayed there last December 2006. We loved the hotel! The rooms had
a very nice Lanna ambience. Check out the murals in our room! The food in the restaurant was great and the service is first rate. The staff was very helpful and friendly.

The taxi drivers usually miss the street because it was in a quiet residential area near the University, tucked away from the hustle and bustle downtown area near the night market. The spa wasn't open yet so we took advantage of the spas in the area who offers free pick up and drop off. Our stay was wonderful.

“Nice Stay”

Ayatana Hamlet And Spa

We stayed at this hotel for 1 night after arriving to Chiang Mai airport late at night. We took a taxi from outside the airport for 180Baht .. at first the taxi didn’t know where the hotel was situated as it’s fairly new but after a few calls we were on our way. Hotel is tucked away from the main street and not within walking distance of many things. Check-in was smooth and bedroom & bathroom werelovely, just as shown in pictures we had seen. Impeccably clean, had all the facilities in the room, just a shame it was only a 1 night stay!. Breakfast was OK, nothing special but the staff were very attentive and they offer a free transfer out of the hotel to the airport or onto your next hotel within Chiang Mai. The spa wasn’t open yet but will be soon!

“Lovely quiet hotel”

Stayed here for 2 nights while touring Thailand. Very friendly staff, always ready to help and had a good command of English. Away from the main city centre but the hotel provides a free service to the night bazaar. The hotel has only 36 rooms thus there is a very personal touch to it.
Unfortunately the Spa was not yet completed so haven't experienced it. Rooms decor is very romantic and clean. DVD player is provided and you can borrow DVDs from reception free of charge. Only downside is the amount of mosquitoes in the area but that is to be expected as the hotel is built within a natural woodland environment. The breakfast was simple but enough.
While in Chang Mai we went for the Kantoke dinner where you can sit on the floor to eat and watch some traditional Thai dances. Another restaurant we'd recommend is the Jus Khao Soy, which is walking distance from the night bazaar. This restaurant provides a hotel pick up and drop off service for free. The name refers to the type of Northern Thai dish that they serve. The only choice you have is the type of noodles and the spiceness of sauce. Just remember not to order spicy (go for the mild or medium). Spicy is hotter then a vindaloo!! They also cater for vegetarians.
