I've uhmmed and ahhed for a few days whether to actually write this review as our experiences were so mixed from very bad to very good as to make hard to be objective but here goes.
First things first we, me & my parents, arrived at 11pm to find out the hotel didn't have our reservation, rather odd given asiatravel.com in Bangkok had reconfirmed that very afternoon that the reservation was confirmed.
The problem was the reception staff were hopeless and did not want to speak to us, oddly they did solve the problem to the best of their ability but left us so unsure as to what on earth was going on, heavy demands to speak to the manager were the only course of action.
The resident manager, Jonas, was eventually called up (apparently via the head chef!) and given the time of night as helpful as could be expected and we did get rooms for that night at least - problem being they had no way accessing Central Hotel's main reservation system.
A very helpful Jonas next day admitted it was all their fault the reservation having been by Central's reservations in Bangkok to their hotel in Chiang Mai! (geography obviously not a strong suit)
He was very apologetic about his reception staff and without prompting offered compensation - we were given a number of options and opted for a 3 course al carte dinner.
I am pleased to note we all thought the dinner was excellent, and the hotel does both good European and local food.
The rest of the four night stay was largely uneventful. We liked the resort, and food excepting breakfast - very average, was excellent. Service was generally extremely good.
They have a small but reasonably equipped gym for its size.
Location could be better - mainly if you could actually walk through the prison camp opposite, err sorry I mean Club Med.
Overall very enjoyable stay though and rooms were of a good size.
However on the last day my mother missed her footing on a blind step in the restaurant at breakfast. She fell and much later, ie back in S'pore the same day had actually fractured a small bone in her foot.
The staff in the restaurant were extremely helpful and concerned and we cannot fault them. However as I had. and we saw other people miss their footing on the very same small, largely invisible, steps with less consequence fortunately the hotel really should mark them in some way. May not look nice but better than guest falling over.
The 2 star rating reflects certain incidents and not the whole experience, but those incidents would make me think twice about going back.
