“Disappointing”

As the title says we find this hotel to be a real disappointment. Alot of money for what it was. We found several of the staff to be quite rude, unhelpful & unfriendly - some with a 'chip on their shoulder'! Felt the cleanliness of the rooms in particular could have been GREATLY improved. 2 out of 5 of us had severe food poisening one of them being our 2 year old son - we only ate in the hotel. Service was slow & generally poor. The best thing about the hotel was the Thai lady who ran the Kids Club - a lovely lady. Would definately not choose this hotel again in the future.

“Fantastic trip to Phuket, Kata Beach”

Centara Kata Resort

Mar 25, 2007

Hello!
Denmark is calling – my name is Morten and please read my reviews of a great vacation in Phuket.
We stayed in a great family hotel – Central Kata Resort – located in Kata town with 2 fantastic pools where our kids spend a lot of time.
It`s a 2 flat hotel and we have booked a Family suit with a big terrasse just outside the pool.
The staff were very friendly and each day there were at least one activity for the guest and childrens. There were a slide for the small children and a spa inside the pool. A little waterfall and a little bridge over the pool made it all very nice.
We have our room clean every day and in the lobby the receptionist were very helpful.
Outside the hotel there are a few shops included a supermarket and a 7 eleven just around the corner. There is also a taxi service where we can recommend Mr. Sirichai Naulchan driving a airconditioned grey van - just a great driver.
He took us around Phuket – first in Phuket Zoo – then Go-cart 30 min further away a day trip of 6 hours and a price of only 800 bath!
The Kata Beach is real bounty and we did a lot of snorkelling with many colourful fishes – a fantastic scenarie.
Around the town there is a lot of booking places with boattrips to Phi-Phi Islands and others great places.
Please visit our homepage www.123hjemmeside.dk/MM_Bragesvej to see more pictures from our great trip.

best regards
Morten Mikkelsen

“Average stay - Feb 2007”

Centara Kata Resort

2 of 5 stars
Hong Kong

My partner and I stayed at Central Kata Resort for 4 days and 5 nights during February 2007.

Price - I thought that this hotel was pretty expensive for what it was. i also thought it was a but much to charge tax and service charges for food and beverage - this is not standard outside the hotel.
Pools - Three pools, one with a slide, one with elephants. All the pools needed a good clean - hair, etc in the water.
Beach Towels - each guest is allocated a towel card per stay. You can change towels twice per day at certain times only. This seems like a good idea but amongst the ten beach towels I used almost all of them were stained with oil or somehting.
Restaurant - One restaurant prices about double of restaurants outside the hotel.
Location - About 5 mins to around 10-15 restaurants. About 25 minute walk along the road to the main beach. You can pay about 100baht for taxis or tuk tuks to Kata Beach or Kata Noi Beach.
Staff - Staff were pleasant, unfortunately their English is not that good so be patient and clear if you have any problems or when dealing with staff (the Reception staff in particular were very confusing and didn't spring to solve any problems).
Room - Attention - if you have problems with mosquitos beware! The rooms are infested with Mosquitos and I spent a good 30minutes killing mine. The rooms are fully airconditioned, no bath, quite basic.

Generally, I found the people in Phuket very helpful and nice. The standard of English is impressive. The food is Phuket is awesome and Kata Beach is no exception. Fresh seafood, Italian, Coffee Shops, etc. However it is full of tourists. I was also dissapointed with the cleaniless of the beach and the quality of snorkerlling. I did see a Lion Fish in about 2 feet of water.

“a mixed experience”

Centara Kata Resort

2 of 5 stars

I've uhmmed and ahhed for a few days whether to actually write this review as our experiences were so mixed from very bad to very good as to make hard to be objective but here goes.
First things first we, me & my parents, arrived at 11pm to find out the hotel didn't have our reservation, rather odd given asiatravel.com in Bangkok had reconfirmed that very afternoon that the reservation was confirmed.
The problem was the reception staff were hopeless and did not want to speak to us, oddly they did solve the problem to the best of their ability but left us so unsure as to what on earth was going on, heavy demands to speak to the manager were the only course of action.
The resident manager, Jonas, was eventually called up (apparently via the head chef!) and given the time of night as helpful as could be expected and we did get rooms for that night at least - problem being they had no way accessing Central Hotel's main reservation system.
A very helpful Jonas next day admitted it was all their fault the reservation having been by Central's reservations in Bangkok to their hotel in Chiang Mai! (geography obviously not a strong suit)
He was very apologetic about his reception staff and without prompting offered compensation - we were given a number of options and opted for a 3 course al carte dinner.
I am pleased to note we all thought the dinner was excellent, and the hotel does both good European and local food.
The rest of the four night stay was largely uneventful. We liked the resort, and food excepting breakfast - very average, was excellent. Service was generally extremely good.
They have a small but reasonably equipped gym for its size.
Location could be better - mainly if you could actually walk through the prison camp opposite, err sorry I mean Club Med.
Overall very enjoyable stay though and rooms were of a good size.
However on the last day my mother missed her footing on a blind step in the restaurant at breakfast. She fell and much later, ie back in S'pore the same day had actually fractured a small bone in her foot.
The staff in the restaurant were extremely helpful and concerned and we cannot fault them. However as I had. and we saw other people miss their footing on the very same small, largely invisible, steps with less consequence fortunately the hotel really should mark them in some way. May not look nice but better than guest falling over.
The 2 star rating reflects certain incidents and not the whole experience, but those incidents would make me think twice about going back.

“Great for Families”

Centara Kata Resort

4 of 5 stars

\we have just returned from an 8 night stay at this resort, we had booked a 2 Bedroom Suite for our family of five, very spacious with two bathrooms, kitchen facilities and a lounge.

This resort has great facilities, 3 great pools, spa and a restaurant, about a 10 minute walk to the beach or in the mornings there is a free shuttle, Tuk Tuk's are available and are very reasonable.

We found the staff to be very friendly and the location very convenient. Be aware that the majority of guests are swedish. We had room service on a number of occasions and the service was excellent, the food was reasonably priced and of good quality..no complaints.

Great tailor just opposite Club Med entrance which is only about a 3 minute walk from this resort. Lots of mini marts and beauticans very close by.

We had a great visit and wouldnt hesitate to recommend it, only major downside is that the majority of rooms are built around the main pool and one morning a family decided to swim at 7.00am !! They woke everyone up ! Pool hours were from 8.00am Otherwise everything was very good.
