We stayed at Chandara for 13 nights, 21/09/07 thru 04/10/07. We chose this resort because it was a reasonable distance from Phuket & Patong as we would be there for our 21st anniversary. So if you are looking for night life and lots of arranged entertainment go somewhere else.

First off I would have liked to have given a 5 star rating but a couple of things stopped me. Let me say though that the resort is first class and the service is excellent. We had no trouble whatsoever with the service provided.

We initially booked a Jacuzzi room but were upgraded to a 1 bed villa on arrival, which was nice. The villa was well appointed and large with small kitchen, living area, dining area, bedroom, dressing room & bathroom. The villa also had a large veranda and reasonably large “splash pool”. We had a couple of leaks in the bathroom roof and sink but these were fixed within minutes of informing housekeeping.

The resort was very quiet due to there only being about 50 rooms so the restaurants were always quiet with excellent service. The area around the main pool is lovely with 2 work-out rooms with ac over looking the Andaman Sea. There is free internet access and free DVD’s if you want as well as a library for when you have run out of something to read, although we received a free newspaper each day. The Spa is very nice and both myself and my wife went for a couple of treatments.

Overall we have no complaints about the staff, but the villa was beginning to look a little tired decor wise and could do with being “brightened” up a bit.. As I mentioned the resort if fairly remote so there are NO shops etc within walking distance and the resort has taken advantage of this by charging well over the odds for drinks etc. If you want to get out and about you will need to hire a car as the hotels bus is expensive, 400bht pp to Phuket & 800bht pp to Patong. As a guide to costs a small beer, 300ml, is 130bht – 160bht plus 10% service & tax (£180 or $360) which imho is expensive! The cheapest wine is about 1600bht a bottle (£25 or $50) and this is normal Australian wine you would expect to pay £4.00 in Tesco or about £10 in a restaurant. Also if you are staying B&B there is a 250bht pp delivery charge if you chose to have breakfast in your room. This is a good alternative as they will deliver enough food to provide for not just breakfast but your midday meal also.

I would give the staff 5 stars but overall I think that the resort is more in tune with a 4 star resort and would need to go some way to match some 5 star resorts we have been too in Borneo, Malaysia & Bali. So while I heartily recommend it I can in all honesty only give it 4 stars overall.

Once again... Pure Perfection.... There was nothing at all that was too much for the staff and management. This wasn't a holiday..... IT WAS PURE INDULGENCE.

We have stayed at many places within Thailand and this was the best by far....magnificient. From the smiling staff and the nothing is a problem attitude, we enjoyed our stay immensely, We had the relaxation we needed with doing the mandate shopping that has to happen when staying in Thailand. We didn't want to have to be in the bussell of everything and staying at the Chandara-Resort was the best of both worlds.

We could shop when we wanted to but this is the ultimate place for relaxation and privacy. Everything was A1 and the best. The food is better than any of the 5 star restaurants in Melbourne Australia and we will be definately staying there again soon.

Congratulations to the Staff & Management for getting it so right. The Chandara-Resort & Spa is one in a million.

The Chandara is a beautiful peaceful and very tropical resort. I stayed with my partner for 8 nights end of April early June 07. I visited Patong and could not wait to get back to the peace, tranquility and beauty of the Chandara hotel. I stayed in the 2 bed villa just really for the beautiful view and the facilities. I will definitely be booking to go back again.
Wow, is a word i would use with the Chandara hotel. Robert, the manager and Manee and another manager that i cant remember his name (sorry) were fantastic. All staff were extrememly pleasant. Any queries or issues they sorted out immediately. If you want the hubba bubba this hotel is not for you. Patong looked seedy to me.
Remember your holiday is what you make it. Another reviewer has added their pictures judge for yourself but in my opinion you wont be sorry that you booked to stay at this hotel. I went into town to watch Spider Man at the Cinema in Central. so basically use Chandara as your base and go out and about to your attractions. You wont be sorry.

Gotta admit that I'm not quite a frequent traveler. Probably twice a year, but I tend to be quite picky selecting the place to stay, especially when it comes to vacation…

Also this is the first time I write review about anything on the web. But the experience I got from 3 days at Chandara makes me feel that they deserve it.

I was at Chandara with my GF during the 3rd week of May ’07, staying in 1BR suite. The room was HUGE!!! Private pool with great bathrooms (both indoor and outdoor). We were lucky to get the room that was probably the best view overlooking the sea.

The kitchen was good, equipped with enough stuff for cooking for two. (On a side note, I personally love cooking as I rarely find time to cook at my apartment). Based on suggestion from hotel staff, we bought fresh seafood from fishermen off the beach (5 minute walk from the hotel) and made lunch ourselves. The staff even volunteered to provide Thai spicy source for our seafood dipping!!!

Service was excellent. Beside the seafood source above, staff was very attentive. We got problem with our private pool and, 5 minutes after making the call, one service maid and two technicians were in front of our door trying to solve the problem!

The only issue that you may want to consider is its location which is a bit in the middle of nowhere. From the hotel to downtown Phuket is about 20 minutes and another 15 minutes to Pa Tong where night spot is. Do get your own car if you plan to stay here.
