I stayed at the Sugar Palm for 5 days in Feb during a two week tour of Thailand with my boyfriend and loved it. Kata is a great little resort in Phuket (far removed from the chaos of patong)and the sugar palm is right in the centre of the town with a 3 minute walk to the beautiful beach. It has a very friendly and relaxing feel and sitting on the balcony at sunset over looking the funky pool with a good book was bliss. The rooms are very generous, tastfully decorated and immaculately clean. There is also a Sugar Palm in neighbouring Karon, which does have slightly more nightlife, but the beach in Kata is much nicer. Travelling in between the two resorts is very simple though and takes a matter of minutes in a taxi or 15 minute walk. I booked the Sugar Palm on their own website and got a 25% discount for doing so, so great value for money. Overall a funky little resort with excellent location and great vibe. Would definately go back.

Just returned from a trip to Kata Beach, Phuket and chose this hotel following reviews on Trip Advisor. We were not disappointed. We stayed in a pool view room as recommended, some of the rooms overlook the street and would not perhaps be everyone's cup of tea. The room was very modern and clean, with a free safe, TV and dvd player (dvds could be borrowed from reception). The pool area was lovely and the beach only a 2 minute walk away. The breakfast was fine - continental breakfast with eggs cooked to order, however very busy at times and struggle for tables to sit at. Overall accommodation was good value for money and in a great location. Can recommend restaurant - Gung on the Beach - a 5-10 minute walk left out of hotel.

Sugar Palm Resort is a fairly new hotel, but the whole hotel seem to be constructed in a cheap way. In the room there are several minor hick ups, which is not a big issue now but you wonder what it will be like in 5 years from now. The pool area is quite nice and breakfast is ok. Phuket is a good destination for beach lovers, but if you're not, I would avoid this island. It is overdeveloped - if you would like to discover the real Thailand don't go to Phuket. The majority of the visitors to Kata Beach seem to be from Sweden, resulting in several Swedish restaurants with menus in Swedish. A good Thai restaurant was not to be found... It felt more like the Costa del Sol than Thailand.

With this being our second trip to Phuket, we knew we wanted to stay in Kata and somewhere close to everything we needed. We decided on the Sugar Palm and were very pleased.

The location in Kata was perfect for beach access and as you expect in the area situated near many places to eat and shop.

We were in one of the 'supreme' rooms which from what we could determine was the older part of the hotel. The room was quite large and although it showed some signs of wear and aging, it was great for us. Our room and balcony overlooked the busy markets/shops below which gave us a good vantage to people watch from.

The staff were friendly and helpful and the breakfast was very good.

Our only disappointment was problems with the internet access at the guest terminals, but on a holiday, this was only a minor issue for us.

Ultimately, this hotel was all we wanted and needed and with a good rate. I would recommend the hotel to others.
