… To reach international standards.
At 133 USD all inclusive for a premium deluxe and well over 200 for a continental club deluxe, this place is no budget option and, to our opinion, is somewhere on top of the medium, and bottom of the luxury range. We experienced those 2 types of room between October 6 and 9 2007.
Its airport proximity location can be a plus for those looking for such, but still, it is only a mere 15 minutes ride away from downtown by any kind of transport.
Of the 8 floors, the 2 highest ones were dedicated to the continental club. While traditional check-in and out happened at the main lobby on ground floor, continental customers did it quietly directly on 7th floor.
The 2 rooms were AB-SO-LUTE-LY identical, beside a few minor differences. The bathroom was slightly larger upstairs with the same amenities, but included an extra weight-machine, convenient for big luggage carriers like us, and elegant yucatas instead of basic bathrobes found downstairs. From the bar side, the continental offered good brewed coffee that went with the coffee machine while downstairs, there were only instant coffees. And finally, the evening turn down service provided a box of 4 delicacies vs. 1 lonely chocolate chip. Not really big deal as you can see.
Late check-out at 1600 came compulsory, no need to ask, with any continental club stay, as long with in lounge same floor breakfast. Same as “business floor” one might find usually around the globe. No more, but no less. Of course, in-room broadband internet by RJ45 in all our rooms, and wireless at the lounge. The breakfast buffet was ok.
On the bad side, we found the room to be not luxurious at all for such claimed “luxury” hotel. In both rooms, the curtains only slided after a fierce fight and they were not thick enough for a blind night, so every day at 0545, daytime for everyone. There was also a very inconvenient all-in-one box power control system on ONE night table. This means when the other side of the bed needed to turn, on or off, his/her bed light, he/she must come across to do so on the box, situated on the opposite side. Also in the middle of the night, there was no way one can light the bathroom, before he/she could reach the box in the dark and hit the right button among the many tiny tiny ones. Strangely, all electric plugs are UK shape, so we could not power any of our machines until we asked for a multi plug converser. No magnetic room key, so only drop and collect it at the reception, pretty inconvenient if you are more than 1 and have different schedules.
Well, very good service in very old rooms, at no bargain price.
And good news for all : conveniently, the departure airport tax from TAN SON NHUT is now included to your air ticket. At last.
