It looks a bit average in the lobby but the renovated rooms are nice and about 4-star quality - typical asian hard beds. I was given a room with a view of the city but opted instead for a room at the back of hotel for a peaceful sleep - which it was. The pool is nice but beware of the the karaoke. Breakie was average but it is an ample american style buffet . the staff speak great english and are really helpful.
The area is very convenient. It is only a 5 minute walk to 'de Tran' or "de Than" ?? street which is backpacker central. Do not take the rip off hotel tour of the city, to the tunnels etc. if you are alone or in a small group - go to Sihn cafe: http://www.sinhcafe.com.vn/ They have an office on 'de Tran' street you can walk up to. A final note, you can get good cheap accom (about $20 US) elsewhere up the road. I was on a business trip so it was not my motive.

This hotel was one of the best hotels we stayed in in vietnam. The hotel was clean and comfortable the front desk staff were helpful and courteous. The rooms were lovely. The breakfast was very good. The hotel also had a nice pool area.
I would only have two words of caution- I had a massage at the spa but I got the feeling that the more services were on offer, this is the same as the bar (business club) alot of scantily clad yound girls hanging around with old men.

We stayed only a couple of nights at Metropole at the end of our trip. When we arrived we were put in a room with two single beds but when they saw the note on our reservation that we were honeymooners they moved us to a room with a queen size. The room was small but nicely decorated so it was quite nice to be in.
We had a room on the 4th floor - there was absolutely no external noise either from the nightclub or from the street. We may have lucked out and not been put above the nightclub. Also we also had a room on the interior (no view) which may have assisted.
We would stay there again - but it did cost more than other hotels that we enjoyed a lot more for either the same or lower prices.

Great location and a bonus to stay somewhere in the city that had a pool to cool off in. Booked this through wotif was approx $120 from memory, rooms nice.
