We were booked into the Nha Trang Lodge Hotel as part of organised tour of Vietnam. The hotel brochure describes the place as "the most luxurious and truly exceptional Hotel suitably enhanced with Vietnamese furnishings and artifacts, offering every facility expected by discerning guests". Having stayed at a range of hotels in the Far East, it would be hard to say the Nha Trang Lodge matches the standards which Western tourists would expect. It certainly doesn't live up to its brochure description.
The place was probably once the most impressive hotel in Nha Trang, but that must have been when the place was first opened. There seem to be a number of other newer hotels in the city, with more under construction, which are better. The lobby and public areas are grand, but not impressive. It reminded us of the sort of architecture and furnishings you would find in any Communist state-owned hotels across the world.
The rooms are clean and comfortable, but are very simply furnished when compared to other quality hotels. Our top floor room had its own small balcony with great views of the beach, sea and offshore islands, which Nha Trang is famed for.
The reception staff were excellent and always helpful - in complete contrast, the restaurant staff seemed like hatchet-faced automotons - who were always to eager to remove your emptied plate the moment you put your cutlery down. The breakfasts were OK, with a reasonable selection of Vietnamese and Western food on offer. However, we preferred to eat dinner out at one of the multitude of restaurants in the tourist area of the city.
While it was clean and serviceable are a place to stay, I would not recommend it when there are other places on offer.
