“Fantastic place!”

Wow! What can I say. As I and a fellow student was heading for Cambodia to conduct research for Uni. I was looking for a good safe place to stay where I could have Internet access 24/7, preferebly in the room. After looking for the perfect place to stay I found Frangipani Villas on TripAdvisor.com.

Arriving in Phnom Penh I was stunned by finding this calm and beautiful apartment hotel in a busy city as Phnom Penh. The staff was great upon arrival. Despite that we arrived too early for check-in they seemed to do everything to get the room prepared for us earlier, they provided us with water and fans so that our wait in the heat wouldn't be too long and hot.

The room was great, a twin room with a big clean bathroom, Internet access, fridge, coffee and tea making facilities. After just a couple of days we felt really settled and made friends with the staff and the owners of the hotel.

The staff at Frangipani Villas are great! They are all very helpful and will make your stay absolutely wonderful.

If you have difficulties chosing where to stay when visiting Phnom Penh I would advise you to stay at Frangipani Villas as it is a safe and clean hotel, with wonderful and friendly staff in a location that is more calm and quiet and the main tourist spot by the river. It is also a project that supports sustainable tourism which involves supporting a sustainable community. You can read more on their website: http://www.frangipanihotel.com/

Frangipani Villa is also a ChildSafe hotel, this means that they work to protect children from abuse.

I also have to mention that if you plan to visit Cambodia but only stay a couple of days in Phnom Penh you should reconsider. Phnom Penh has a lot to offer besides the main tourist sites that is often described in guide books. There is plenty to see and do so stay just a couple of days more!

I wanted to stay there for my one-month work trip to Phnom Penh but with only 7 rooms, it was pretty full so I only stayed for a night upon my return from Siem Reap.

The location is not as 'nice' for travellers like street 51/ 19/ anywhere near Norodom Boulevard/ independent monument, but the place was a very nice surprise.

The rooms are clean, nicely-decorated and the hotel is actually quite committed about environment and sustainability like they say they do.

Just before I left I met one of the owners, a Khmer who graduated from AIT in Thailand. I found out that it's fully owned by 4 Khmer graduates and even their receptionist is a former street children from NGO Friends International.

It's nice to see young Khmers trying to make a difference. I'd stay in Frangipani again easily.

We only stayed in the Frangipani for one night, but enjoyed it. The room (number 11) was very large and came with a kitchenette. It was comfortable, quiet, and clean. The room had a TV, mini bar, and a few thoughtful touches like fruit platter and books to read.

The hotel is located near an expat area, so there are plenty of nearby restaurants, shops and a supermarket if you'd like to self cater. This expat area is very close, but you still need a map to find it - it's not outside the front door of the hotel.

It's a nice alternative to staying right by the river, and only costs $2 or $3 to travel there by tuk tuk.

The staff were friendly and helpful. I'd be happy to stay there again.

“Nice little guesthouse”

Frangipani was a nice little place. Big clean room with kitchenette (not that we needed it), TV and sofa. It was fairly well located, away from the main noise of the harbour but only a 2 dollas to get a tuk tuk in - though was sometimes harder to find a tuk tuk and the drivers didn't know how to take us back there - carry a map with you!

Came with free breakfast which was really just a couple of slices of toast and a fried egg. Was fine though. Only thing not so great was they tried to charge us $6 cos my hubbie wanted his egg scrambled for the 3 mornings we were there, not fried - I refused to pay though.

Appart from that they were very helpful and I would recommend staying there.

“A Great Stay”

My girlfriend and I stayed here for 3 nights in late November 2007 and we had an enjoyable stay.

The courtyard was a peaceful and relaxing place to sit, eat or read.

Our room was a decent size with good security, air-con and cable tv. The only negative was the water temperature which seemed cold the whole time - although with the climate it didn't matter too much.

The breakfast was basic (bread with ham or jam and tea/coffee) but okay. The food menu available at other times was a little pricey by local standards.

They have a daily free laundry service for one shirt/skirt which isn't a bad idea.

Staff were always courteous and polite and there is a security guard on the door (and the street) in the evenings.

Location wise it is a great escape from the bustling waterfront centre and far nicer than the backpacker area north of town. You need to Tuk-Tuk or Moto to the river - walking is a bit far. There is a big supermarket nearby.

Overall we found this a great stay and would certainly recommend it to other travellers looking above the backpacker market but not quite 4 star market.
