After the previous bad reviews it was with some trepidation that I checked into the Colombo Hilton. However I was to be pleasently suprised. The staff were very helpful, both checking in and out, and the staff around the rest of the hotel were also friendly. This is obviously a business hotel so as a tourist it did feel a bit different. The location means that at least most of the rooms have a sea view. Ours was over the old parliment building towards templetrees the presidents residence. Which means no photos from the room!! Room a bit on the small side but adequate for our stay. Lots of choice with restaurants, probably best in one plac in Colombo. Japenese, Chinese, Italian, Sri Lankan, Fine dining and coffee shop.. One down side is the trek to the pool. Which entails stairs up from the basement back to ground level, a walk through the garden, over a bridge spanning a main road, and then lots of stairs the other end. No chance if you find it difficult to walk distances or climb stairs. Good location for shopping which is why we were there.

All in all a good hotel, best suited to business travellers, but ok for the tourist wanting a one or two night stopover

I'm a frequent business traveler and also a member of the Hilton HHonors. I must say I’m totally disappointed with Hilton Colombo.

I’ve stay at the hotel from 17-21Sep 07 which I booked thru the internet at the confirm rates of USD120 per night excluded taxs.

The overall atmosphere of the hotel is consider to be above average for a 20yrs hotel, but poor if to be compared with other 5 stars Hotel.

Some justifications:

- They lost my supplier contract to me which worth USD millions per year; and they don't even act as they're concern about it,

-Slipper and Toothbrush set is Not provided till you ask for it.

- Fruit basket was not change for the entire stay.

-They billed me USD139.98 per night excluding taxs. (I’m still trying to get back the different)

- Called up Singapore customer service hot line which is very NOT HELPFUL, thus I’ve to resolve the issue with Colombo myself.

Those of you who've read one of my previous reviews may think I harbour a grudge about Hilton. Not true. I had one bad experience a couple of years ago but this hotel description looked good, so I decided to go for it. However, before booking this hotel, ask yourself the following questions:

1) Do you want an endless hike to the swimming pool/gym (over the road)?
2) Do you want the same hike to the buffet restaurant in the evening (bearing in mind it often rains in Colombo, and this hotel doesn't provide umbrellas)?
3) Are you prepared to eat seafood of dubious quality, making you ill for a couple of days? (it wasn't just me that was affected)
4) Do you like being pestered in the hotel bars by "ladies of the night" offering "massages"?

If you answered 'yes' to all of the above, then go for it!!!

We visited Sri Lanka for our honeymoon in May'07 and stayed at the Hilton on the first and last day of our journey. We had booked ourselves into the Executive rooms located on the 17th Floor. The rooms are very very preety with a gorgeous view. The 1st night we had the view ofthe beach and the 2nd night of the Colombo port. For all people checked into the Executive rooms there is a lounge operating on the 18th floor which provides you with wonderful tea/snacks/drinks. We visisted the pub located in the lobby and had a wonderful time drinking there. The staff is friendly/ efficient and very very sweet. I loved my stay hereand did not want to leave!!!. I would recommend the hilton to every traveller visiting Colombo:).
