“Cheap hotel, but avoid booking travel plans with Adem. Very dishonest.”

Jimmy's Place

You get what you pay for with Jimmy's. Cheap accommodation but with cheap breakfasts (no cold meats available, no juice, plain and basic) and non-stop enquiries about purchasing tours and booking accommodation for the rest of your trip.

Rooms are simple - toilet ran non-stop for our 2 nights there, we had to request a remote for the air conditioning, bathroom was very dated and the bathtub was not very welcoming.

My biggest gripe with Jimmy's Place is the dishonest manner of Adem who runs the travel agency side. We enquired about bus times to Kapadokya from Selcuk which prompted Adem to ask about our travel arrangments for the rest of our trip. We advised that we had a hotel and balloon ride booked already for Kapadokya. He then proceeded to offer discounted rates for the balloon ride, encouraged us to book the balloon ride with a different company who he said was better (I now suspect that it provides better commission for him), asked several times if we wanted to look at booking alternate hotels which he thought were cheaper and better and offered us tours of Ephesus and Kapadokya. After extensive prodding by Adem we agreed to cancel our current balloon booking and agreed that he would book the same balloon company for us but at a discounted rate. This was our fatal mistake.

After we had cancelled our original booking, Adem advised that the balloon company would not accept a booking from him because they suspected that he had offered us a discount rate He then again pushed us to book the balloon flight with his preferred balloon company (called Goreme). I refused as I'd heard our original choice was the best.

Adem then devised a plan with his travel agent/hotel owner friend in Kapadokya that he would book the balloon tour under my husband's name with a pick-up from a different hotel. We were nervous about this but it seemed like the only option now available. We waited for Adem to complete the phone calls and at the end he advised that everthing had been confirmed. He had booked the balloon flight for us with our prefered balloon company. (Afterwards, we found out this was a blatant lie as we checked with the balloon company. They did not accept a booking from Adem for us.) Adem then advised us not to discuss the arrangement with either the balloon company or the hotel where we were staying in Kapadokya.

On the day of the balloon flight, another couple from our hotel were being picked up for the balloon flight from the company we were supposedly booked with. I spoke to the driver to confirm that we were on the list of people to be picked up from another hotel. There was a lot of confusion which was compounded by the arrival of Adem's travel agent friend who was meant to pick us up. I told the travel agent that I only wanted a balloon ride with this particular company and if I'm not booked on it, which were not according to the balloon company's driver, then he needed to explain it to me. He assured me that everything was fine, that there was some miscommunication and we could sort it out at his office. During the drive he tried to convince us to switch to another balloon company because all the pilots for our preferred company were no longer with the company, the reputation was built on the other pilots and it's gone downhill since, he could still book us flights with the other company for that day, etc. We refused to switch balloon companies. He then shouted at us and there was silence in the car.

Once we got to his office, we were then advised by the travel agent (Nomad Travel in Goreme) that supposedly the owner of our current hotel had called the balloon company and insisted that they refuse us the balloon ride because he had been undercut and would lose his commission. He then proceeded to tell us what a bad a person our current hotel owner is and how he's a bast*!*& (again total lies, our hotel owner in Urgup was extremely professional and charming). However, on the bright side he could still book us flights with the other company. Again we refused and requested that he call our preferred balloon company and book 2 places with them for the next day and to take us back to the hotel. We requested that he refund our money.

Later that day we called the balloon company, Nomad Travel had not booked 2 spots for us for the next day. We also called Adem to complain, he also told us stories of what a bad person the owner of our current hotel is and how this mess was due to him (again a bunch of lies) and how Kapadokya Balloons had cancelled on us at the last minute due to our hotel owner's prompting (lies, lies, lies. Kapadokya Balloons is brilliant and very sympathetic when we explained what had happened).

Bottom line - do not trust Adem to book your travel plans, he's after commissions and recommending you to his friends. His friend's hotel is a budget hotel called Shoestrings in Goreme, run by the owner of Nomad Travel. Adem tried to convince us to cancel our booking with our pre-arranged hotel in Kappadokya by advising us that our hotel was overpriced (the hotel is rated 10/10 in one of the well known travel guides and is worth every penny, they also receive glowing reviews in TripAdvisor) and that any deposit we have paid would be compensated by the cost savings in changing to his recommended hotel.

Stay at Jimmy's Place is you're after cheap accommodation. It's nothing flash, but reasonable for what you pay. Just make sure you don't book travel plans with them or via them with Nomad Travel!!! Adem is very insistent that tours are required and he doesn't provide any advice that doesn't somehow involve him being involved. You can call it helpful, but I think it's more about the commissions he'll receive.

You've been warned, so please don't make the same mistake we did!!

“Hotel of slamming doors”

Jimmy's Place

Jun 27, 2008

Well we stayed about a month in turkey, unfortunatly we chosed 4 days to stay in selcuk which was a mistake, of course there were better options like kusadasi, jimmys place might be reasonable place for backpackers but believe me you can get even better for that price, staff is not friendly and lacking information, bad slamming elevator doors. i was with an infant and i remember someone screaming pls close the door when u leave elevator, how am i supposed to know that you have to manually adjust that door, dirty small rooms - poor bedsheets and hygiene
well you have a choice to opt for better, believe it!!!

“Rough night sleep”

Jimmy's Place

Jun 10, 2008

Jimmy's Place, Selcuk Turkey.
Date Visited: 19th May, 2008
Reviewer: Family of four from Brisbane, Autsralia

We booked this hotel as it was recommened in Lonely Planet. The cleanliness was great but the beds and pillows were terrible (Rock Hard). One squeaked every time you moved. . Also you could not get hot water before 7am. When the owner showed us around the last thing he showed us was his brother's carpet shop out the back.
The breakfast was very small in variety. The coffee tasted like tea. Coffee and tea were the only drinks offered for breakfast and this didn't go down well with our kids.
This place is very basic. If asked to recommend it we couldn't. Maybe it was a case of we got what we paid for. The two rooms cost combined, 50 euro per night. We had a double and superior room.

“Great value”

Jimmy's Place

5 of 5 stars
New York
Dec 29, 2007

Our hotel in Pamukale recommended us to this hotel and it was ideal. We again had a large famliy room and it was spotless.

The best feature was the reference library in the foyer, the kids were never at a loss if they had spare time.

Adam organised all our tours for us and it was priced very reasonably...we know because we shopped around. All our tours ran very smoothly as well.

Great hotel, would stay again anytime. Thanks to everyone at Jimmey's for making our stay so pleasurable.

“Fire Place Casserole”

Jimmy's Place

4 of 5 stars
New York
Dec 20, 2007

Jimmy's Place has a nice fireplace where the guests and the hosts and their relatives/staff congregate. In the winter the cook of the hotel makes the traditional gulash casserole at the fireplace for the guests and themself. It really creates a cozy atmosphere. And, I was told it is the only hotel in Celcuk that has central heating system. Jimmy showed me the heating/hot water system that burns bio-wast from olive oil press! Very cost effective and environmentaly friendly.

So drop-in and join the conversation in front of the fireplace.
