“Definitely not five stars”

Magic Palace

3 of 5 stars
Riga, Latvia
Jan 13, 2008

The best thing about the hotel is its location in the very center facing a beautiful marina.

What we didn't like were rooms and service.

Conditioner in the room was rather noisy and was blowing uncontrollably cold. As we stayed in December cool air was definitely not what we needed. The interior was obviously not updated for a while, it was OK. Rooms were kept clean though.
Staff hardly spoke English, especially in the restaurant, so we got in a few awkward situations with ordering. In the gym area the girl was very rude, speaking of which, we expected gym to be included in the price, as in most 5 star hotels.

On the plus side the hotel is family-oriented (as the whole Eilat) and we found there were mostly locals with their big families staying in Magic Palace.

As for food, they have two spacious restaurants serving buffet breakfast/dinner. The food was delicious and abundant, although you should expect they won't serve meat dishes together with diary, must be according to some kosher rules. We didn't find any seafood either.

“Rotting woodwork, stained carpets, awful food, overpriced internet and more”

Magic Palace

Nov 17, 2007

This hotel tries to pass itself off as 5 stars. The building itself is nice and the location good so I expected more from the Fattal Chain.

The room had badly stained carpets, a stained sofa, rotting bathroom woodwork, peeling enamel bathtub, shoddy looking fridg. The shampoos provided were made in China. The room did not have a chair for the desk or telephone book or even complementary pen and paper (as is common in all 5 star and most 4 star hotel).

The evening meal was awful and even my very non-picky husband did not eat. You needed to search and beg for coffee cups and glasses and water.

I called in advance to see if they had wi-fi and they told me it was available in the lobby only they forgot to mentioned the charge- a whopping $11 an hour and if you want to use their computer $7.50 for HALF an hour.

The boxed lunch which we ordered for 7am in order to make our tour bus took 20 minutes to appear.

There are some 3 star hotels in Eilat that are much better than this so called 5 star for a lot less money.

“Couldn't have been better”

Magic Palace

5 of 5 stars
London, England
Jun 6, 2007

My boyfriend and I stayed at this hotel for 3 nights and it couldnt not have been better! The room was immaculate, the service was excellent, the food was fantastic. I have stayed at the sheraton moriah and the Sheraton Herods as well and i would like to say that the magic palace is definitely on their level- it deserves its 4 star rating. The swimming pool area was great and clean. Very family orientated yet there wasnt much noise pollution to the room- it was ideal.
The room was cleaned every morning- and towels always replaced- what more could you want from a hotel? its only a 5 minute walk around the marina to the promenade and clubs/bars/ resstaurants. Perfect holiday.

  • This TripAdvisor Member:
    • Liked — relatively close to bars/clubs and loved pool/ sunbathing area.
    • Disliked — not that close to the beach by foot... should take a cab.

“Stay Away”

Magic Palace

1 of 5 stars
Chicago, Illinois
Apr 11, 2007
6/6 found this review helpful

This is the very first time I have ever in my 40+ years wrote a review of a bad experience I have had at a hotel but this one really required it. The short recommendation is to stay away. This was the fifth hotel we stayed at in Eliat and for the money we got taken. We booked a 4 night stay this past weekend with my in-laws and my three year old son. Both rooms were filthy (not dirty but really gross). Some examples of what were bad were:
1. Burns on the floors
2. A huge 1 FT squared stain on the carpet.
3. The bedspread was ripped and burnt repeatedly with cigarettes
4. The lamps (both of them) had "strange" stains on them. I don’t know how they got there or want to guess at what the were.
5. Both bathrooms had a strange "skunky" odor in them

We contacted the front desk they said they would send someone up. They tried to rectify what they could but obviously they could not fix the floors or the odor in the bathrooms. The manager on calls said they were fully booked and that the next day they would show us a different set of rooms. Needless to say the next day the rooms they showed us were as bad as the ones we were staying in. We rejected their offer to switch rooms.

Bad rooms were the short of it. The foodservice was bad as well. They served water pitchers on every table we served ourselves out of them the first night to find particulate food matter floating in all our glasses. I don’t mean crumbs here, I mean unclean to the core. We contact the service staff who replaced the pitcher and the glasses. We also saw after lifting the pitcher that the table was still dirty from the previous patrons who had occupied it. The sad part was it was not an isolated incident. The same thing happened the next night at dinner. Particulate matter in the pitches and dirty tables.

We spoke to the customer service manager who wanted to make things "right" the next day, but at this time we were all living with a bad taste (literally) in our mouths and decided to cut the vacation short. All she was empowered to do was to refund the money we had already paid for that night (in Israel you pay in advance for your entire stay; they credit you back for unused nights). We ran not walked from the hotel taking what we could get.

I have traveled all around the world and stayed in poor and great hotels and resorts. Stay clear of the Magic Palace, there was nothing magical about our stay. For a rated 4 star hotel we received sub 2 star service and support from the staff. As I told the management it was as if the line staff could careless about making our stay a pleasant one. I treated them with the utmost respect I wish they had done the same to my family.
