“A Dump with a capital "D"!”

Renaissance Jerusalem Hotel

We just returned from a stay here. My advice: Stay Away! It baffles me that Marriott would keep this property in its collection! Renaissance Hotels are Marriott properties, but how this one got away from their usual high standards is mind-boggling!
Dirty, worn out, run down, are the best descriptions. Staff is very indifferent to guests, and ultra-religious in the hotel allow their kids to act as if they're in a playground, all day and night!
More importantly, there appears to be little security in the lobby and entrance, as would be typical in Israel.
This hotel appears to be a huge Shabbat hangout for area residents and visitors who don't want to violate Shabbat in their homes. So they come here to hang out and run wild. Management couldn't care less apparently.
The only redeeming quality is the very good and plentiful breakfast ( but the service at breakfast is spotty).
Overall, a Dump with a capital D!

“Indifferent staff, out of way location”

Two different hotels in one; price given on phone was not the same when arrived; if you're booked in the lesser part-poor service and difficult to get luggage to apprpriate elevators;
Staff was not helpful-and access to a hotel desk top computer was very expensive; They did provide a shuttle to Old City a few times in a.m. but no return pick up; This plus inconvenient location should caution those without their own transporation;
Only redeeming quality was excellent and varied breakfast;
coffee shop prices very high

“you can do better”

Renaissance Jerusalem Hotel

The hotel is sad and outdated with bad early 80's decor. They would not turn the heat on in march even though it was freezing. The staff was clueless. They use an unpleasant smelling cleaner. Aside from that, the indoor pool/sauna was pretty good, but small. The outdoor pool was not open. Breakfast was good. It is not close to anything so you will pay additional cabfare if you make this choice. It is not a good neighborhood to walk in on shabbat. Overall, a big depressing outdated hotel, though not a flophouse.

“A Dangerous Hotel”

I was an overnight guest at the Renaissance Jerusalem Hotel on the night of December 29-30, 2006. Early in the morning of Saturday Dec 30, 2006 there was a fire in the hotel sauna that generated a great amount of smoke. The smoke was clearly apparent in the rooms of all the floors in our wing. THERE WERE NO SMOKE ALARMS. THERE WAS NO FIRE ALARM. THERE WAS NO ORDERLY EVACUATION. THERE WAS A TOTAL LACK OF CONTROL.

This translates into a complete and total lack of concern for the guests. While making our way down the stairs on our own, we encountered a blocked stairway (northern stairway near room number 200(?) blocked at floor number 1).

Perhaps the most disappointing was the attitude of the hotel management which made no apology, comment, or did anything to make this quite frightening experience any less so.

I can only shudder at what whould have happened in a "real" emergency.

“Better than expected - although a little tired”

Stayed here because I was visiting people nearby, although I was a bit concerned at the negative reviews here. This set my expectations at a low level and I was therefore pleasantly surprised.

The room was good enough, and quite clean, although the bathroom was rather dilapidated.

Only ate breakfast there which was quite good, although the hot food was a bit ropey.

The dining hall area, much like the rest of the hotel and rooms, is tired and could do with refurbishment. It's not dirty, but rather a bit old looking and worn. The hotel’s age is reflected in the price as far as I can see.

Internet access from the rooms is a little strange. You need to get a router installed in your room by the business centre. There is no longer a charge for the installation. As the business centre is only open 5 days a week from 9 to 8 if you arrive out of those times you will need to wait for them to open. They did say that if you told them in advance of your arrival they would install the adapter in your room when they were open and leave it there ready for use– something to bear in mind.

The hotel considers the business centre to be a separate entity and therefore take no responsibility for internet access. In my case this didn’t have any impact on anything but I can see such a ‘passing the buck’ attitude to be a potential problem.

Staff were all generally quite helpful.

All in all I would stay there again if the price was still right.
