“not a five star suite at all!”

Avissar House

Jan 6, 2008

a five star suite? They must be the ones you can see from the private balcony!! We stayed at the Dream of Jerusalem suite which was considered to be a five star suite, which is absolutely not. Nothing to do with the quality you can expect from a five star apartment (they call it suite) in Europe or America. The furniture seems to date back to king Herod's time. Besides, everything was dirty and seemed it hadn't been cleaned for ages (we found hair in the shower, a plate in the kitchen with food from the previous visitors and chocolate under the sofa). The only positive thing is the location of the hotel, in a very quiet area and 5 minutes walk to Jaffa gate in the old city, and the breathtaking view from the balcony. So if you are looking for a place near the historical Jerusalem, this is the one, but if you expect a clean and fully equipped place for a so-called five star suite, you'd better look for another hotel or aparment.

“Great locations, OK rooms”

We stayed two nights at Avissar House in the Under the Olive Tree suite. The location is great - in Yemin Moshe, a the first neighborhood located outside the Old City Walls, and close to the Windmill. Wonderful views too. The inn is about 10 min walk from the old city Yaffa Gate, however be prepared for uphill walks as either direction from the inn involves several flights of stairs. The two room suite we stayed in was fairly basic - but clean. Fairly old furniture, sofa bed in the living room, and double bed in the bedroom. Some repairs were needed to the lights and other fixtures. Bathroom was fine, but no shampoo was included in room. The room does not include breakfast, but does have a small kitchen with fridge. The owner responded very promptly to my emails. In person he provided some basic verbal info on places to eat in the area. I would have liked to see some writen info available in the suite on the area, maps of Yemin Moshe, taxi info etc.

Overall, this was a good location, good price for a two room suite, but the ambiance could have been better.
