“Not Too Grand Hyatt”

Grand Hyatt Amman

3 of 5 stars

I've just returned from three nights at the Grand Hyatt Amman. Upon arrival, the presence of security checks are quite reassuring. The reception is smart, large and well presented however I did find the staff a little arrogant; bordering on rude.

My room was modern, light and airy. Access to the A/C controls in the heat was helpful. There was a fruitbowl and bottled water (not replaced daily). The selection of tv channels was mind boggling. The bathroom was impressive however the 'wet room' shower 'cubicle' is a little uneccessary.

The selection of food at breakfast was excellent however service was slow and rather erratic. Again, the terrace bar is relaxing and pleasant however service was again found lacking. The food at the Italian restaurant was good but again I found the staff to be a little efficious.

The gym was well equipped but I found the pools to not be that well maintained. The tiles, water and surrounding areas were a little dirty and unkempt.

Grand Hyatt: please sort out your staff and shared facilities. This could be a great hotel in a fine city but it's not quite the finished article.

“Looks Good But Mediocre Service”

Grand Hyatt Amman

This hotel has a beautiful lobby, reception area, pools (indoor and outdoor) and gym, but unfortunately, it has major flaws that shouldn't exist in such a so-called 5 star property.

I only stayed 2 nights but the first day, the cleaner forgot to put towels in my room which is quite inconvenient after a long day shopping outside. Also, they never refilled my fruit basket during my stay even though they're supposed to do that daily.

The rooms were OK (nothing special, though) but the separate shower area flooded everytime I took a shower. Also, the bathroom amenities were few compared to other similar hotels.

The breakfast buffet was excellent, but again the service was slow and chaotic. We had to order tea 3 times before being served.

You just feel that these deficiencies shouldn't exist for a such an expensive long-established hotel of its caliber.

I just think that the staff needs more training.

“Not great”

Had heard great things about this hotel from colleagues who had stayed in the past but was hugely disappointed. The rooms were mediocre, the hotel seemed a little run down, and the service was akward.

“Not grand, some kinks but sufficiently pleasant”

When I visited Amman 7 years ago, the Grand Hyatt is arguably the best 5-star hotel in town. With the introduction of other luxury properties, its shining armour has faded a little. While the hotel has given the lobby a facelift, the rooms could use some touch-up. Nonetheless, the hotel is good value for money.

Check-in proceeded smoothly, but the staff provided us inaccurate information about the breakfast that was included in our package, as a result, we had to argue with the manager about our bill when we checked-out.

Service was quite poor at the restaurants--in a couple occassions, it took over 10 mins to get a cup of tea! The bell captains and housekeeping staff are great though! Very attentive.

The best thing about the hotel is that it has a deli! For those who feel like a quick meal or wanted a bite in between lunch and dinner, this was perfect. The Lobby Bar also deserves mentioning, especially the cosy fire place. Language is a slight issue as the staff do not always understand your order, but they will get it eventually.

For travellers proned to dry skin or hair, bring your own shampoos, conditioners and lotions...etc. I forgot my hair products and by the 3rd day, my hair felt like straw.

All in all, the hotel is good for business travellers, but it will not satisfy luxury travellers.

Despite the security that you have to go through(for your own protection), this is a first class hotel. The rooms were immaculate, the service superior and the view spectacular
