“Lavish hotel but takes too long to get to the Haram, also terrible housekeeping!”

Zam Zam Grand Suites

May 16, 2008

The hotel is still under construction, so you will witness alot of construction work going on. We had a kaaba view double suite room but to be honest, we really had to strain our neck in the window to see a glimpse of the side view of the kaaba.

The room was nice, the breakfast was excellent. The lobby is like a busy train station, very chaotic and also there is no mobile phone reception in the lobby and many areas of the hotel, so it is a complete nightmare trying to arrange to meet someone there.

The housekeeping was one of the worst i have seen in any five star hotel, or any hotel for that matter!! The housekeeper would not come everyday (we were there 6 nights and he only cleaned the room 3 times after being asked several times!) He didn't do a good job either, and only when he was given a tip, he did a slightly better job. The hotel is also full of flies, including the room.

The shower has no curtain, so the bathroom is constantly flooded even after the housekeeper mops it, it is still wet.

The hotel is on top of the shopping mall, so to get to the prayer on time, you have to leave before the azaan because if u leave after the azaan you will probably miss the prayer after going through two different lifts and walking through the mall to get to the haram.

The hotel was nice, but it takes too long to get to the haram, therefore i would probably not use this hotel again.

“Humongous Construction, rediculous housekeeping”

The hotel is excellent... the food is great,,, especially the hot breakfast buffet,,, try the Lunch or dinner buffet,,, it is a must,,, avoid the disappointing local restaurants... indulge yourself in a variety of choices that is really delicious and worth the price... affordable and the best in town,,, superb,,, better than Hilton believe me and wairters are more friendly and happy to serve you at all times,,, even when it is really packed with people at breakfast time,,, they are very joyful and very much attentive..

Rooms were great, very tranquile and spiritual view... very nice setting and ambient decoration,,, very trendy furniture all around... the hotel in over all from inside is very well looked at... spotless... each room has a large i believe 42' LCD TV set... refreshing bathroom, newly designed, though small but efficient except for the missing of the bath tub curtain which will make your whole stay wetty... u may ask for a bath tub curtain, but u may consider yourself a hero if the house keeping will ever responded to you at all... Housekeeping are there to hang up phone calls all the time..heheheh hilarious,,, all they do is talk back in some different language than the one you are speaking and the hang up...

Elevators were plenty and up to date models.. very comfy... receptionists were enough in number and were proffessionals as well... fast, freindly and answer the phone...

Other to the housekeeing turmoil, the hotel is superb, the rooms are spotless, the bed linens are fresh and changed daily, corridors and passages are well taken care of... except for some trays beside rooms threshholds with some left overs that were supposed to be carried away by housekeeping or room servise hours and hours ago... i would recomend it for any one going to Makkah,,, the best hotel in the vicinity....best restaurants... and u can hear the Azan in your room...GREAT.

five star class hotel. very near to masjidil haram, only 5 minutes walking. there's a shopping mal below the hotel. can hear the adzan from the room.
we stayed in a suite that has 2 bedroom, one room for 2 person, and another room for 4 persons. there's a dining room and a living room. it has a pantry, equipped with electric stove, fridge, but no crockery. easy to find cheap food outside the hotel.

“Flashy hotel but no service”

Zam Zam Grand Suites

Apr 22, 2008

What a Hotel, but no service at all. We stayed in a Suite on the 31st floor, great views of the Haram and Mecca including the mountains. The rooms were really accomodating to stay in, but no service at all. House-keeping was really terrible, as the room was not cleaned on time. When I arrived and checked in, the air-con in the suite was not working, the kitchen light not working and the small bar fridge was empty with no cooldrinks or eats. The bathrooms have no shower doors, so when having a shower the bathroom is totally flooded with water, we had to place towels all around the bathroom floor. I complained to the management but no joy as they all speak arabic. Breakfast was a nightmare, always full, no available tables to sit, as when I complained I was told that all the guests from Safa Tower were using Zam Zam Towers breakfast floor as they did not have one. Also when arriving, no welcome, no greating, no source of appreciation... When checking out a total disaster, no bellman (porters available), I had to carry 6 bags all by myself to the lobby, then to the ground floor where my taxi was waiting for over an hour. I ended up getting to Jeddah Airport late, missed our flight, and had to spend 2 nights in Jeddah. I understand the building is new and there are a lot of teething problems, but com'on guys you can do better for such an eloborate hotel - Haroon (South Africa).

“All flash no service”

Just returned from an Umrah trip with family. If you don't speak arabic learn it before you go because the staff will ignore you and even walk away. The place is very flashy and comfy rooms but the service is terrible. The place is chaos in the lobby littered with luggage, a sure fire hazzard. Room service can take upto 6 hours with several reminder and hang ups by staff. No one to complain to. They sure take advantage of the proximity of the Haram and it sure is alot of flash without any service. The mall underneath is very nice if you can manage to get in the elevator with 100 other people.
