This hotel appears to be aimed at Westerners and other business-people in a Middle East environment where certain Western amenities might not otherwise be available. We visited for a week and found it quite comfortable. It offers a very nice pool and beach area which has fairly reasonable prices and where sunbathing in Western attire is fully acceptable. The fitness club is well above average for any hotel with plenty of room, a large selection of machines, free weights, etc. We found the hotel rooms (ours and a colleague’s) clean, spacious, and very well maintained. Internet access is available for a fairly reasonable fee. There is construction going on at an adjacent site on one side of the hotel (pile driving for example) and it would be best to avoid that part of the hotel.
This hotel is totally isolated from the rest of Doha (and anything else), although the city center is an inexpensive taxi ride away. For this reason, the hotel restaurants are of importance. The main method of feeding guests is an incredibly diverse and high quality buffet (three daily varying by meal) with almost anything anyone could desire. Fruit and vegetables, for example, which may be tough to get in some places, are abundant and of high quality, but so is smoked salmon, prawns, various fish, meat, breads, cheese, etc., etc. Bottom line, whatever your food desire, you are likely to be accommodated in limitless quantity. Alcohol is served in all restaurants. As our stay and costs were paid, I did not pay attention to cost of the buffet.
There are three other restaurant options: A Tex/Mex, with the typical fare, but a nice bar area and a lively night scene that draws local ex-pats; an Italian restaurant of above average quality; and a tea room with small lunch fare and deserts. Overall, the options are very good, except that the only place to get a small meal is at the pool, which is not always open depending upon weather.
The hotel is clean and well maintained, with a spacious and accommodating lobby area. The staff seemed very pleasant and well trained. It would seem reasonable to consider this a strong four star hotel.
