“Quite a Pleasant Hotel”

InterContinental Doha

4 of 5 stars
San Diego

This hotel appears to be aimed at Westerners and other business-people in a Middle East environment where certain Western amenities might not otherwise be available. We visited for a week and found it quite comfortable. It offers a very nice pool and beach area which has fairly reasonable prices and where sunbathing in Western attire is fully acceptable. The fitness club is well above average for any hotel with plenty of room, a large selection of machines, free weights, etc. We found the hotel rooms (ours and a colleague’s) clean, spacious, and very well maintained. Internet access is available for a fairly reasonable fee. There is construction going on at an adjacent site on one side of the hotel (pile driving for example) and it would be best to avoid that part of the hotel.

This hotel is totally isolated from the rest of Doha (and anything else), although the city center is an inexpensive taxi ride away. For this reason, the hotel restaurants are of importance. The main method of feeding guests is an incredibly diverse and high quality buffet (three daily varying by meal) with almost anything anyone could desire. Fruit and vegetables, for example, which may be tough to get in some places, are abundant and of high quality, but so is smoked salmon, prawns, various fish, meat, breads, cheese, etc., etc. Bottom line, whatever your food desire, you are likely to be accommodated in limitless quantity. Alcohol is served in all restaurants. As our stay and costs were paid, I did not pay attention to cost of the buffet.

There are three other restaurant options: A Tex/Mex, with the typical fare, but a nice bar area and a lively night scene that draws local ex-pats; an Italian restaurant of above average quality; and a tea room with small lunch fare and deserts. Overall, the options are very good, except that the only place to get a small meal is at the pool, which is not always open depending upon weather.

The hotel is clean and well maintained, with a spacious and accommodating lobby area. The staff seemed very pleasant and well trained. It would seem reasonable to consider this a strong four star hotel.

Hotel is a little old and looking tired. The lobby area is rather dated as well. The gym is so so but the pool is awesome! It has a great view and is very windy. The rooms are average - 3 star, at best. Poor selection of cable TV channels.

“Sorriest overpriced Intercontinental hotel in the chain”

InterContinental Doha

This hotel is overpriced, over rated and about as unfit for residence as a hotel can get. The environmental system is grossly inadequate to preclude cigarette and cigar smoke plus other noxious odors from permeating other guest rooms. The On-duty managers do not follow-up on any issue presented. The food is of low quality, limited and grossly overpriced. There are no provisions for ADA persons. The rooms are aging but not in a positive manner. The external noise at night from both hotel related activities and local and adjacent construction activities preclude a nights sleep and heaven forbid if you place a "do not disturb sign" on your door. The entire hotel staff will come ringing the bell and be apologitic as can be but the damage is done once woken. I am now recovering from a nasty viral infection as a result of the airborne contaminants in the room coming from the inadequate air handling system. I was placed there by my company as it is the closest place where one can stay to our project located about 50 miles away from Doha. I cannot change locations as this is where I need to be due to logisitcs but I will hopefully be vacating Doha as a result of illness shortly. In a nutshell I have worked in 63 countries and stayed at numerous Intercontinental hotels and this is the least desirable Intercontinental Hotel I have had the opportunity to stay at. On a positive note the basic employees attempt to do a "asthetically" appeasing job in maintenance and the service staff will do whatever they can or are empowered to do for you. This however is a typical traight wherever you may stay at with anything one star and above. Definitely I would recommend the Ramada over the Doha Intrcontinental Hotel or better yet the Marriot. Both are excellent. If you have money to throw away and care not about what you receive in return than the Doha Intercontinental is the place to stay. Lots of glitz but nothing else in return.

“Fabulous Service”

InterContinental Doha

I had the pleasure of staying at the InterContinental Hotel Doha for one week during November while traveling on business and found the service to be superior.

During my stay, I had the opportunity to dine at Za Moda (the Italian restaurant) and it was outstanding. The chef and his staff are to be commended for their talent in providing guests a very pleasure dining experience.

Throughout the hotel, the staff were readily available to assist guests and to ensure comfort and service in every aspect.

This was my first time to stay at the InterContinental Hotel and I will definitely be back!!!
