“Great resort”

A group of 24 went over for the Port Vila swim and we stayed at Mangoes. We had the a wonderful time. The staff at Mangoes are the most helpful and friendly people ever. Because we were a large group and would often all turn up for breakfast together sometimes the staff were overwhelmed. We had a couple of evening meals there as a group and we let the resort know what time and ordered prior to sitting down things ran more smoothly. The food is really good. The pools are small but very clean. The bungalows are clean and the beds comfortable. The gardens are a delight. I am planning another trip to Vanuatu and will certainly have Mangoes as my first choice.

We booked this resort because of the very reasonable cost, the location and its size. The staff were always helpful and friendly.Breakfasts were wonderful. We enjoyed being able to lounge by the pool at the end of the day with a wee drink at hand.Glenda from Melanesian tours was most helpful, and we recommend the Lelepa island tour-it was a great day.We ate one day at the local market curry and rice 300 vatu-quick,clean and good value. The lunches at Chill are great.Rendevous is good for dinner and uses local veges. We went on what is known as Bob's feast or Solos feast. This is a Melanesian feast in a local village, doesn't have the glamour of the Meridien feast but the food was fantastic,I especially enjoyed being shown all the raw vegetables and then tasting the cooked products was a highlight of our trip.Bob hangs round the market and takes your money 2500 vatu each and you pay on trust that this feast is going to happen but it does .Mangoes is very conveniently located for tour and feast pickups. We enjoyed Vanuatu and Mangoes and would return .

“Thank you Mangoes Resort”

Recently I was in Vila on a business trip. At short notice I had to find accommodation for my wife for a week later to continue our business meetings etc. Mangoes was recommended to me and upon meeting Callum I was impressed with the service and professionalism from the start. My wife has since arrived home and is very impressed with the service she received and we will continue to use Mangoes as our base as we are in Vila 4 to 6 times a year.
Thank you to Callum, Michelle, Seth, Frank and all the Staff.

“Honeymoon Getaway”

Mangoes Resort

My Husband and I just arrived back from our 7 night Honeymoon at Mangoes Resort in Vanuatu.

The resort itself was lovely, we were very happy with our Garden View Bungalow, the rooms were spread out and the gardens were stunning, the local staff worked on them all day every day and they looked it - they did an awesome job.

As Honeymooners we arrived to find a trail of flower petals from the little sidewalk into our room, throughout the lounge/kitchen area and into the bedroom area and we recieved a bottle of complimentary bubbly, which was really lovely of them to organise.

The room was pretty clean - there were a few areas I could have scrubbed but the room was cleaned daily with fresh towels and flowers from the garden laid out in the room.

The pools were lovely - we spent a lot of time in the larger of the two and enjoyed some late night swims to cool off.

The food in the restaurant was excellent, slightly slow at times even when it was just the two of us in the whole place but well worth the wait - the food was fantastic, especially the beef!!

Glenda was great and signed us up for some great tours, there were so many to choose from and we were happy with everything we did.

There were a couple of things we weren't happy with - we had an air con unit in our room which was padlocked to the off position, the heat was extreme for us and to be able to have that unit in our room and not be able to use it was very frustrating.

The staff were extremely friendly and only too happy to help with any requests we had, the owners on the other hand we found to be very rude. We passed them or saw them in the office a number of times during our stay and they would not even glance in our direction, they did not at any time say hello or even smile. We were pretty shocked at their attitude.

We would definitely go back to Vanuatu, but would more than likely stay somewhere else - the only reason we would go back to Mangoes would be because of the lovely local staff they had working there.

“A quiet slice of paradise”

Mangoes Resort

We spent a brilliant week at Mangoes - not even a Tropical Cyclone could spoil it.

Our room was a lagoon view with a small, perfectly formed, kitchenette, cool shady lounge, king sized bed, bathroom the size of some other hotel rooms I've stayed in and a balcony with deceptively comfy chairs. Buy some wine or beers on duty free on the way in to enjoy the afternoons/evenings with cos the views are so relaxing.

Gardens are kept really well, and both pools are really nice and clean. We mostly had them to ourselves when we were there.

Everything about the resort is understated yet luxurious. The rooms are all seperate and really private. Staff are really friendly and their welcoming, yet laidback attitude really help make our holiday great. Carlos is brilliant! Breakfast is a highlight - We've never tasted such yummy lime juice. Dinner is a bit dull for Vegetarians, but the steak is yummy for carnivores. You veges don't need to worry too much as you can get lots of reasonable priced options at Chill (down behind the market) They have a great fixed priced menu. and are a great place to down a few Tusker beers while eyeing up the desert menu...

Jills cafe on the main street is an American themed place that does Huge icecream sundaes (Hey, you're on holiday after all!) and has a bewildering array of burger and tex mex thingys.(including vege options) And if you want to go just a bit more up market try taking the free ferry over to Iriki Island. Food is superb and they you can chill on their beach or go snorkelling. Great way to spend a day!

We got heaps of help from Glenda of Melansian Tours. Her advice was spot on. We caught a bus out to the cascades - if there's only the 2 of you it might cost more(1000vatu instead of 400Vatu), so try teaming up with others. Swam in the waterfall - stunning. Then walked down through the village to the secret gardens and did a wander around. It's interesting but probably better with a guide - watch for the mozzies - they fly in giant swarms big enough to show up on Air Traffic controls radar. Then walked on to Hideaway island. All in all about 30-40mins of walking. Hideaway has some brilliant snorkelling (you can hire the gear there) and cheap and cheerful food & bar) Bus back is 200 Vatu each. Other trip we did was the round the island - long day but worth it. Even got to sample the dubious pleasures of Kava...

The walk down to Port Vila is easy - just take it slow like the locals. It takes about 8-10mins and saves you money for a Tusker when you get to your destination. Food shopping is good at the Au Bon Mache or Centrepoint (?) supermarket but there's a lot of what you can get at home (NZ or Oz) just closer to the use by date and more expensive. But enough French stuff to keep Francophiles excited. Everyone is pretty friendly and there's enough touristy shops to keep the credit card happy - but every CC transaction will incur a 3.5% surcharge for some sort of currency conversion tax. The open air market is the just like in all the tourist shots - pretty much the same goes for all the photos really. (If your're looking at photos - just turn on a heater full blast to get the authentic feel)
