“amazing find for the area”

I actually lived there for over a month and enjoyed it. The staff was friendly. The food was incredible. The management always concerned themselves with my being satisfied. The people I met while there were always intriguing. I would say the only bad thing is how far out of the downtown area it is, although this is not necessarily a bad thing. The manager (Edward) has done a great job and I would definitely stay there again.

“Peaceful oasis from the hurly burly of Yangon”

I think you have to take the other reviews in context.
Burma is the Third World outside of Hotels and the Dusit Inya Lake is an oasis of calm in a wonderful lakeside position with the largest swimming pool in Yangon.Ideal to wind down when arriving with jet lag or after 10 days upcountry.
Yes it is 60's hotel (a gift from Russia - and the archtecture shows) but the rooms are large and airy and the bathrooms work with hot water and good towels and Dusit shampoo etc. The food is fine ($12for a decent buffet) and the A La Carte with Burmese Curry or Butterfish $5 is good and the staff are friendly and helpful.
Decent house wine is $12 (The Strand starts at $32)
Rates are also great value for money - $50 for a twin including a good buffet breakfast , and to put it in context - you would pay twice as much for this for dinner /winefor 2 at The Strand or The Govenors Residence down town.
It is also much nearer the airport , important if you have a dawn flight out.

“dishonest”

Dusit Inya Lake Resort, Yangon

Was given the Presidential suite (for some reason, that I don't know). It was 2500 squar feet. Bigger than my house in London!
But the rest was not so grand. The gym was good. The food ok with the restaurant staff helpful. But I left in the morning and left behind two full bottles of very expensive shampoo. Called within an hour of leaving and told them we would pick it up when we return in 5 days. However we were given only one when we returned. A $20 item but none the less we paid about $200 for the night we stayed. Not very good in my eyes! Not to be trusted

“Dismal Dusit”

Hideous, Soviet-built hotel that is a holding pen for package tourists embarking on or returning from tours into the heart of Burma. We had spent the previous night at the Strand and got quite a shock from the Dusit's grotty accommodation: our room was spacious, yes, but the tiles in the bathroom were crawling away from the blackened grouting, the aircon spilt rusty water on to the floor, the balcony was cracked and sported a dead plant and a broken chair. This would have graced Albania in the 60s. On our return from a Pandaw river cruise, we were given a much, much better room, a full suite in fact (305) though it still sufffered from a dirty bathroom and dead plant syndrome.

Downstairs, the public areas are Soviet-vast, empty spaces searching for guests. There is a cavernous, newish-looking restaurant with barely edible buffets that spanned the world. I know other reviewers have praised the Dusit's food but coming from Four Seasons Qatar and then The Strand the food here just made our stomachs heave.

Outside, the lakeside setting is beautiful and a distinct plus, though you cannot walk beyond the hotel grounds and we counted only one seat from which to admire the view. The pool is a longish walk and though the concrete is cracked and the sun loungers dirty, it offers some relief from Rangoon's torpor. At weekends and afternoons, the pool area is invaded by armies of ex-pats and their children.

Try and avoid this hotel if you possibly can. (I can heartily recommend the Pandaw cruises, despite an insect problem and boring food. The boat is lovely, the service aboard truly amazing and you get to visit some really out-of-the-way places. I'd be happy to answer any queries from readers thinking about taking one of these trips.)

“Dusit Inya Lake Hotel”

Nice hotel for Yangon. The beds were comfortable and the rooms large enough. The food was very good and priced right. The grounds were very lovely by the lake. You are too far out of downtown to walk to anything ,but its easy to catch a cab to anywhere you want to go.Nice quiet location.
The hotel needs some cosmetic work as its a battle to stay ahead of the mold that forms from the high moisture content of the air. The other weird thing about the hotel is that the pool is located quite a ways from the hotel rooms and everyone walks through the main dinning room back and forth from the pool, strange arrangement . If I was ever to go back to Burma (not lightly ) I would stay here.
