“good and bad”

President Hotel

May 21, 2008

This hotel is located next to Chinese Embassy if i remembered right, me and my friend stayed there for 9 nights, the good points include good air conditioning, nice bathroom and quiet location. The breakfast has crossont and bread rolls, and fuul (bean with cream), the orange juice tastes like cordial, there were no eggs or meat, no fruit. Some of the bad experience include: the room cleaner guy constantly asks me if i was happy with his cleaning service, when i said its good and not giving him a tip, he spat at me. Also a pack of cigetreet was stolen from my suitcase (i bought a carton of them), internet cost E$40 per hour, you only pay E$10 if you go to Ramses Hilton. If you stay in this hotel make sure you take all your money when you leave the room. Also there are cars parking outside the hotel (not marked Taxi) privately owned by some young guy, he tried to befriend with us and take us to the Pyrimads, DO NOT GO WITH HIM, a normal horse riding costs E$50 per hour, his friend charges E$360, he tricked us and all the time he had a smile on his face, he gets commission from the horse organizer. He also tried to take us to many places where we told him no, his name is Ahmed (i think), he calls me sisiter the first time i met him.

This hotel is horrible, DON"T GO THERE! Its a run down, old, smelly and wet place. We arrive in Cairo from Paris at 12am, We arrived at the hotel, it was in some back ally. As we walked in we thought well of it, then we got to the rooms! The room was stuffy with no zzopening window, air con didn't work that well, Stuck of Cigarettes. the fridge hadn't been cleaned out it had all bits of old food and even some hair in it, the carpet was all ripped up wasn't layed down Proberly, the towels had all marks and ripped edges, the pillows were as hard as a rock. The shower had no curtin, so when u had a shower your bath will be flooded. My adivce is Don't stay there!!!!! We satyed for a night, that was more than enough!

“Dont go there”

President Hotel

After reading trip advisor reviews for the President Hotel, Cairo, I thought I would give this hotel the benefit of the doubt. Unfortunately I was very disappointed. The first room we were given was disgusting, I would not even let my dog live there. The second one was still unacceptable but after 21 hours flying we took it. The carpet had never been vaccuumed in its life, the walls had marks all over them, the bed linen was so old it had holes in it, the pillows were probably the originals from when the hotel first opened. WE had to pay the cleaner every day to put toilet paper in the bathroom. It was dirty and disgusting. The airconditioning unit vents were that dirty and black, it was scary. If there was a fire in this hotel, not many people would survive. There were no fire alarms anywhere and the lift was so narrow, only one person could stand sideways in it. The stairwell stops at the first floor. Access to reception is by lift only between the first and ground floor. My advice if going to Cairo, splurge on a 4 or 5 star hotel, it is definitely worth it.

“Cheers for the President”

On returning from our fourth long stay at the President once again I would like to say that this is one of the best hotels we stay in. It may not be the Grand Hyatt, and does not cost the same, but the welcome and service, as always, is second to none. The staff remember us when we return (no mean feat!), the rooms are clean and the food in the restaurant excellent.
What more do you what for the price - you are in Cairo not New York. Perhaps it would be wise to remember that just like you the staff are only trying to make a living.

We shall be back, enshallah!

We stayed here as a base in Cairo city whilst on a photo shoot. As this was the last available hotel in the city towards the end of a religious holiday we didn't have great expectations.

We were proved right! Whilst the reception looks fairly clean and tidy and the staff are, in the main, very helpful there were audible gasps from our rooms on seeing the state of the bathrooms. The rooms would have been fine if they were clean but unfortunately this was not the case. Many of our rooms also overlooked a very grotty centre courtyard with air vents from the kitchen, which sent suspect odours into our rooms. The wiring in the rooms was also pretty dodgy.

The only good thing about this hotel was the price, which was understandably low, and the view from the breakfast room/2nd floor bar but this was often obscured by the terrible smog that blankets the city all day.
