Being a natural Lara Croft Egypt has always been on my list of adventures and what better than to book at the Sofitel Karnak to stay for a week. However, if you just feel like leaving your walking shoes at home then look no further than you’re perfectly placed sunlounger that overlooks the Nile with an Agatha Christie novel by your side.
Overall the Sofitel Karnak is a very well put together resort complex that caters for all ages and desires. Small families join young and old and there is enough space for all. You can make friends or just keep yourself to yourself.
The rooms each have their own view of the beautifully tendered gardens and are cleaned to a very high standard every morning and are generally ready after you have taken Breakfast.
The food offered every evening in the main Restaurant is themed (however not incredibly varied.'Texmex' evening was devoid of anything Mexican as I know it!) Brushing that aside everything was cooked to a very high standard and I was not afraid of ending up with a sore stomach.Sitting overlooking the Gardens and the Nile as the sun went down made it for me. The Staff were so friendly and I wanted for nothing (they do like the ladies-so single women get treated like queens). The hotel Manager was always on hand to make sure you were happy and even came to find me on the last day to thank us.
The Sundowner Bar that overlooks the Nile is an idylic way to rest your explorers feet with a cool beer or Cocktail as the sky turns orange over the desert.
We did venture into Luxor one evening on the free Shuttle bus that runs almost every hour to seek a different eatery but found the consistent hassle of Touts too much to bear. To seek shelter we found ourselves inside the old Winter Palace. Sadly the dress code to eat in the Restaurant was shirt and tie (not shorts and t-shirts!).It was wonderful anyhow to be allowed a look around old Colonial Egypt and marvel at what Howard Carter and Agatha Christie enjoyed back in the day.
We booked through Thompson and took some excellent excursions to the Temples in Luxor and the Valley of the Kings-I heard that you could probably find your own Guides but with the feeling that you are being ripped off in most places I was nervous to attempt this.
I would definatley advise my family and friends to visit this Hotel-if you want a memorable holiday that feels it should cost alot more then stay here and be charmed.
