Spend wonderful time in this hotel for 8 days and satisfied in every way with staff and the food. Hotel blends perfectly with nature, very clean and exotic in its traditional way. It has an unforgettible view over the lagoon and playing in the tidal waves might be real fun. However, the bathroom was old fashioned and the management could be inflexible to solve your problems. The beach boys might be problematic as they won't let you walk alone on the beach. Don't let them forbid your access to the sea. Say "no money" in Swahili language firmly and you will have your peace. It is important that you don't promise anything. We did actually some business with them for booking excursions to neighbouring islands and to Mombasa. There were some trustworthy guys like "Branco" or "Ali Baba" who would offer you good prices. Just ask for them on the beach. They surely would be good friends as well. I met in the hotel many people who were there for the fourth or fifth time. I think I will join this club in the future.

Stayed at Papillon after our safari and found this to be a lovely hotel with staff that couldn't do enough to help - wonderful welcome. May have upgraded to a better room, but were only there four four days and didn't spend time in the room anyway. Would definitely rcommend.

“Fun in the sun”

For a 3-star all-inclusive we were really impressed, especially by the delicious food. There were some great local dishes as well as lots of choice for vegetarians, all washed down with refreshing Tusker beer. Kenya has fantastic Indian cuisine too - check out the amazing Shan-E-Punjab restaurant along the road. It was so good we went there twice in a week and I still fantasise about it a year later!
The week we were there in November 06 the weather was perfect - hot and sunny. There was loads of wildlife, with monkeys and baboons wandering through the resort. There's a nice pool and glorious Diani beach stretches for miles. The sea is gorgeous - warm and sheltered by the reef, it's great for swimming. It also gets quite big waves which are fun to play in.
If we didn't feel like talking to the beach hawkers we just went straight in the sea without loitering on the beach and it was fine. Don't let them put you off Diani as it really isn't a problem - we had a great holiday.

“Lets just say it was Ok”

Papillon Lagoon Reef

Stayed at this hotel for 8 nights at the end of September after a weeks Safari.

Lets just say it was Ok, as in it's 3 star and that's what you get. We over spent on the Safari side which meant we made the choice to go cheaper on the Mombasa beach stay. Things to note; this hotel is geared up for the Brits and thus, so is the food. If bacon and egg breakfast and roast beef dinners every day and night is your bag, then this is certainly the place for you. However, after several days we got bored and so went to local restaurants for the remainder of our stay. If you get the chance try Ali Barbour's cave restaurant. It is really good and very reasonably priced. They will even pick you up and bring you back to the hotel free of charge.

The beach hawkers really are much more of a problem than some reviews state and getting rid of them sometimes requires more than no thanks. If you want snorkelling book the all day cruise on the Pilla Pipa dhow (very good and good valve for money) and not the 2 hour trip from the hotel pool side. That is unless you prefer to snorkel in 2 feet of water for £12.00. Your choice.

Apart from that its an Ok place. The pool is good, staff excellent and its all very clean. Having said that we would not stay here again if we ever went back to Mombasa.

“Excellent Hotel”

Papillon Lagoon Reef

this hotel was far above a 3 star, the staff are fantastic, the food was the best we have had on an all inclusive holiday, We had a standard room and were going to upgrade once there but when we saw where our room was we decided to stay with the standard, we were in room 212 near the reception garden and it was very quiet, the superior rooms were down near the beach but also near the night time entertainment which lasted until midnight, so we were very happy with our room.
I would not not hesitate to recommend this hotel it was fantastic, the owner Melba was there while we were staying and she ensures everyone gets great service and is constantly looking on how to improve and teach the staff the little things that matter.
Well Done to her!
So ignore the bad bits people have written remember your travelling to Africa and not everything is perfect but what you do get is great value, relaxing atmosphere and a beautiful hotel with great staff and fantastic food.
