“Spring of 08”

Jinglun Hotel

Apr 8, 2008

My daughter and I stayed at the Jinglun Hotel over spring break 08. I pre read the reviews and didn’t know what to expect. We were traveling with my herbalist and 12 others. I am happy to report we so enjoyed our stay.

I was told we were booked to eat on the Asian side of the restaurant and the food was great. I looked forward to breakfast every day. We tried new fruits and tea eggs. We don’t get tea eggs in Wisconsin in the USA. They were very good and the meat buns were so light and good. My daughter highly recommends the bread that looks like it is topped with tomatoes and spices. It was all so good and I wish we had a place that served such healthy food at home. I recommend the peapod salad and the dragon fruit; I think that’s what it is called. Yes they did serve coffee.

Our room provided anything we needed. There were 2 free bottles of water everyday in the bathroom. We were there for 6 nights. One night I ran up to the business floor to send a couple of e-mails and the staff was very helpful getting me online. We needed a 120 to 240 converter which we picked up at the desk.

If you plan on using their pool bring a swim cap. They also had 3 treadmills. Because we walked so much we never used the treadmills. I have recommended this hotel to others already.

“very correct hotel”

Jinglun Hotel

Mar 20, 2008

I just cannot understand some of the critics on this hotel. The Jinglun is a no-thrills middle class hotel at a very good price, usually for business or conference travelers. You can just not expect to get a five-
star service if you only choose and pay for a three-star one. This applies to breakfast, rooms, service incl. language skills etc. I stayed there various times and appriciate it for the good location, just next to the ring road and World Trade Center complex. As one person wrote taxi drivers know the place which is extremely important.

And one more thing: Please do not follow the tip to walk to teh Forbidden City..I mean this person cannot be serious...it must be an hour away and this in such a hectic city, with intense traffic etc you better take a taxi (very cheap) or underground.

“Not bad for BeiJing”

Jinglun Hotel

We just stayed here September 6th through September 9th of 07.
Although not a five star hotel as being advertised the room that we've stayed in were large and comfortable by Chinese standards. As everyone else mentioned the breakfast here is absolutely excellent, you must buy the buffet to enjoy the greatest variety from traditional Japanese breakfast fish to European cold cuts and American hash browns.
Word of advise. DO NOT buy drinks at the bar. I've ordered a Manhattan that came in a shot glass and ended up costing me 80 yan. By comparison a bar next door was 15 yan for a 20 ounce beer and only 20 yan for a mixed cocktail. Also, which I guess is the norm in Beijing, customer service is poor. Everytime we had to ask front desk for something, 3 or 4 times, we literally had to wait for 15 minutes while they talked on the phone or with each other, and their conversations were certainly not work related. Lack of English was another major concern. However, with all these aside it's still one of the best "western" style hotels in all of Beijing.

“Great location, Excellent follow-up”

Jinglun Hotel

Sep 6, 2007

I received a letter in the mail today from the General Manager of the Jinglun Hotel, much to my surprise, thanking me for my comment on the Customer Satisfaction survey. I've travelled a lot for business and spend far too much time in hotels around the world, but this letter is a first.

The location of the hotel is excellent. Taxi drivers know it. Those are the key things. The rooms were all newly renovated; chic and conveniently designed. I had no difficulties communicating with the front desk or even the helpful-beyon-their-role bell boys. The breakfast buffet selection, while about average, was a rather tired by the fifth day. A bit more variation would be nice for the longer stayers, but I haven't experienced anything better at this price range.

My only constructive tip on the survey was about the instant coffee provided in the rooms - it was the same pre-sugared, pre-fake-creamed powder provided at our Beijing office. I could only think - too bad I'm not a fly.

So today I come home to a letter, thanking me for my input on the Nestle Coffee (someone checked the product name). They mistook my gender, but got everything else just right. Someone actually sat down and wrote this thing.

I am a cynical traveller. I generally dislike hotel living. This letter has really made my day.and I will happily stay at the Jinglun again.

Future reviwers, please do let me know about the state of the coffee provided in the rooms.

“Mixed feelings about this hotel”

Jinglun Hotel

3 of 5 stars
Osaka

I was at the Beijing Jinglun Hotel a couple of weeks ago. Despite some very nice things about this hotel, I still have mixed feelings about it. Let me start with the good. The best thing about this Hotel is the location. Since it is located near the center of the City (close to the Tiananmen, Forbidden City), several of the attractions in Beijing are readily accessible. It is about 5-10 minutes walk from the Silk Market and is about 5 mins walk from the China World Hotel. If you're up to it, you can probably briskly walk to the Forbidden city in less than 30 mins. The locations is very ideal. You'll appreciate the location especially when you're taking a taxi and the driver immediately knows where your hotel is.

When I checked-in, I requested for a new room (as was advised in this
site previously). I was informed by the front desk staff that all the
rooms have now been completely renovated. So there is no need to specify that you want a newly-renovated room. The rooms and hotel facilities are quite good.

The breakfast buffet was about average. After two days of eating breakfast there, however, I didn't feel like eating the same food again. So I just skipped it.

The thing that really turned me off with this hotel was the language skills of the staff. Most of the front desk staff could hardly understand english. Same with the concierge. I was making a very simple request with the front desk (I wanted to leave a message for someone who was coming in that day), but it took me about 15 mins to explain it to them. I wasn't even sure if they actually understood me. Also, after my first night, I informed the front desk that the aircondining in my room wasn't working properly. It wasn't as cold as I wanted it to be (the controls seemed to be not working). The lady at the desk told me that, since it was still Spring, the hotel airconditioning was not yet made to fully function. She suggested that I open the windows the following night. Since my room was right in front of the main street, I did not think that that was an option (dusty and noisy). For the price I was paying for my room, I expected
the room aircon controls to be at least fully functional (even if it was still Spring).

Despite the very ideal location and the generally nice rooms and facilities, I am not sure if I will stay in this Hotel again. Of course, if location was really the primary consideration, then I may reconsider -- but only after checking out the other hotels in the area.

I really hope that Jinglun will be able to hire more well-trained staff and have better hotel policies in the future.
